Description:
Mars

Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the Solar System, is a cold desert world with a thin atmosphere. Known for its red hue, it presents an expanse of gravitationally eroded mountains, rich in metals, but entirely cold and dead. Are you able to sustain life in the unforgiving Martian environment, or will you perish in this desolate wasteland?

TL;DR:

No coal, oxide, volatice, nitrice, and uranium (uranium can be found in bedrock)
Rare water ice
Generous metal deposits
No changes to atmosphere or power generation
3 Starting Conditions
Have fun 🙂

Resources:

There have so far not been any findings of organic materials on Mars. Hydrocarbons will need to be imported or photosynthesized. Relative to the other planets in the solar system, the temperatures on Mars are quite hospitable. They do however prevent the formation of any desublimation ices. (No Volatiles, Oxite, or Nitrice) Water, on the other hand, has been discovered, even if the occurrences are very sporadic. Iron is abundant and gives the Red Planet its color. The topsoil suggests that numerous metals are hidden beneath the sandy surface. Surface scans show that Mars has a significantly lower concentration of radioactive materials near its surface. Whether uranium ores could be found nearer to its core is undetermined.

Atmosphere:

Temperature Kelvin: 220 to 292 °K
Temperature Celcius: -53 to 19 °C
Pressure: 2 kPa

The thin Martian atmosphere consists almost entirely of carbon dioxide.
95% Carbon Dioxide (at 8.66 mol)
~2.96% Nitrogen (at 0.27 mol)
~1.44% Oxygen (at 0.131 mol)
~0.64% Pollutants (at 0.058 mol)

Energy:

Mars is still considered one of the Inner Planets and thus close enough to the Sun for solar power to be a viable source of energy. However, be aware of the effect frequent Mars storms will have on your power generation! Solid Generators can be used as a last ditch means to generate power to keep you alive. Due to the lack of coal deposits, this energy source is quite costly though. The thin Martian atmosphere can also be used to generate wind power. This method can be essential to keep your batteries charged even during dark storms.

Starting Conditions:

Default: You have come prepared with two landers to establish a human presence on this barren rock and exploit its resources in the name of interplanetary industrialization.
Brutal: While your supplies may be meager, you are lucky that you were hauling biomass as you went down over this desolation. Make the most of it!
Minimal: Where did the whole base go!? You better promise to never try making fires with fuel tanks again!… Well, maybe almost never…

Technical and Information:
  • If this mod breaks again, see the last point!
  • I made this mod to have fun in this environment and with these starting conditions. If I am not playing, I may not notice that something has broken.
  • startconditions.xml and some of worldsettings.xml has been put together with Titan by Vinus as reference.
  • I got the idea for this mod from Mars – No Ice by phaethon
  • Mars by ESA [www.esa.int]
  • Nasalization by Typodermic Fonts [www.dafont.com]
  • Ice Cream from Bernd Lakenbrink [thenounproject.com]
  • Dinosaur by Vectorstall [thenounproject.com]
  • Brutal starting conditions are tuned to provide an interesting challenge for me personally so they may not be as brutal as for Venus or Vulcan.
  • Three playthroughs on the brutal starting conditions have shown that the interval between life threatening situations allows intermediate to experienced players to find solutions in time.
  • If anybody knows how to make a mod for some kind of CO2 ice deposits (maybe with some other interesting thing mixed in) that might add some more uniqueness to this imagining of Mars 🙂
  • Many thanks to Vinus and phaethon for their fantastic mods that helped me make this!
  • If this ever breaks or you want to add your own spin to this, feel free to change and reupload this, no need to ask, no problemo! I hope you have fun! Oh, the source for this mod is here by the way: Gitlab: Yet Another Realistic Mars [gitlab.com]
