GDC Logistics – Realistic Physics Mod (ETS2) – Steering Wheel & Pedals Edition
Welcome to the GDC Realistic Physics Mod, a comprehensive physics overhaul designed from the ground up for wheel and pedal users who demand a more authentic and challenging driving experience. This is not just a simple tweak; it’s a systems-based simulation that replaces the game’s forgiving, arcade-style handling with a model grounded in real-world vehicle dynamics. Installation and Setup Guide Linked Below.
It’s important to note: this mod isn’t simply about making the suspension feel softer or adding more cabin bounce like other physics mods. It is a tool designed to reward skill and punish mistakes, forcing you to become a better, more deliberate driver.
If you’ve ever felt that the default trucks are too glued to the road, that the brakes are too powerful, or that you’re not truly feeling the immense weight of your rig, this mod is for you.
Core Features: A Systems-Based Approach
This mod is built on three interconnected systems that work together to create a cohesive and immersive simulation.
1. The Progressive Grip System (Tires & Handling)
We’ve completely reworked the tire friction model to be less forgiving and more dynamic.
Realistic Grip Levels: Say goodbye to cornering like you’re on rails. This mod introduces a "progressive grip" model where tires feel stable and responsive during normal driving but have a distinct and dangerous breakaway point when pushed too far.
Real Consequences: Speeding into a corner, especially on a slick surface or with a heavy load, will introduce authentic understeer and the very real risk of a jackknife. Smooth steering and throttle inputs are now essential.
High-Speed Stability: A high degree of tire stiffness provides a firm and responsive on-center feel at highway speeds, eliminating the "loose" or "wandering" sensation of default physics.
2. The Thermal System (Brakes & Heat Fade)
The brake system has been re-engineered to make heat management a critical part of your driving strategy.
Authentic "Heat Soak": Based on the thermal properties of real-world brake drums, our model features extremely slow heat dissipation. The danger isn’t just how fast your brakes heat up, but how stubbornly long they stay hot.
Purposeful Gameplay: Riding your service brakes down a long mountain pass is a recipe for disaster. You will experience significant brake fade, forcing you to rely on proper technique with your engine brake or retarder. Those runaway truck ramps are no longer just scenery—they’re a potential lifesaver.
3. The Mass & Inertia System (Suspension & Cabin Feel)
You will finally feel the true weight and scale of your tractor-trailer.
"Floating Cab" Simulation: We’ve created a dynamic two-layer suspension system. The chassis suspension is softened to absorb road imperfections, while the heavier, independently dampened cabin realistically sways, pitches, and rolls in response to acceleration, braking, and cornering forces.
Palpable Weight: The increased cabin mass gives a profound sense of inertia. You’ll feel the cab lurch forward when you hit the brakes and sway as you navigate turns, providing critical feedback about the truck’s momentum.
