The Cross of Burgundy

This is a passion-project of mine. Dissatisfied with the lack of Mission Trees, and not knowing the prerequisites for national flavour events to fire, I wanted to create a semi-railroaded historic experience for one of history’s greatest ‘what-if’ scenarios. You can leave the railroaded events at any time.

1.3:
- Order of the Golden Fleece — added as a Law with its own Policies.
- Rapondi Bank — event chain following the Rapondi family becoming Burgundy’s national bankers.
- 5 more recruitable historic artists
- Melchior Broderlam
- Jean Maloeul
- Jean de Marville
- Claus Sluter
- Robert Campin
- Christine de Pizan
- 3 new works of art
- Melchior Broderlam
- Ghent Altarpiece
- Musical Treatise
- Portal of the Chartreuse de Champmol
- New event chains
- The silting of the Zwin Estuary: save Bruges, or move your mercantile hub
- Eramus of Rotterdam, Hieronymus Bosch, Printing Press
- Navigate a Reformation-embracing Low Countries, whilst Old Burgundy sticks to the old doctrine. Or create your own Church, harmonising Erasmus’ humanist teachings.
- Cultivate and embrace a merged culture and language: consolidate your subjects to a distinct Burgundian culture
- Urbanisation of the Low Countries under Burgundy
- Construct the first stock exchange, the Bourse of Antwerp
- Hire Chancellor Rolin, Phillip the Good’s right-hand-man of over 50 years
- Tightened the Burgundian Inheritance chain
- Region locked notifications
- AI-controlled Burgundy no longer marries historic characters before their historic marriage event

This mod details the extinction of the House of Bourgogne, and the gifting of the Duchy of Burgundy to Phillip ‘the Bold’ de Valois, and follows the key events of his reign, and those of his dynasty. This will provide a richer, more detailed Burgundian experience:
- Cultivate the Pinot Noir vineyards and establish Burgundian Wine as a cultural staple
- Invite the pre-eminent Flemish artists of the era to your court
- Inherit the fractured territories of the Low Countries, through tactful marriages
- Follow through that which Charles the Bold could not finish – an independent Burgundian State. Or trade your French overlord, for the Emperor and grow your influence within the Empire.

There are some key things to consider when using this mod, should you wish to keep the events coming:
- Do not marry your historic rulers; there are events for these, with some historic rewards…
- If your ruler dies via a base-game event (the dreaded hunting accident, for example) then I urge you to load your most recent Save. Deaths of historic characters are dealt with via events, and with them, their historic heir will appear
- All events will show the Historic Option tag. You can leave the railroading of history at any time.
- The historic railroading culminates with the death of Charles the Bold and the question of the Burgundian Inheritance. After this, there are plausible events for whichever option you chose.

- 110 dynamic events, following the four historic Valois Dukes of Burgundy
- Cultural dynamic events (cultivate the Pinot Noir grape, sponsor the Burgundian Music School, etc)
- 2 Government Reforms (event-driven)
- 4 new Estate Privileges
- Declare Independence, become a vassal of the HRE, or bid the title of Emperor yourself and recognise Charles the Bold’s ultimate ambition
- New, dynamic flags based on historic examples

- Burgundian Wars Disaster
- More dynamic flags
