Description:
Continental Hegemonies

Tired of Ming sweeping every hegemony title while the rest of the world watches? This mod makes hegemonies continental during the Age of Discovery and Age of Reformation,
so countries compete for dominance within their own continent.

How it works
  • Eras 3-4: Hegemonies are split by continent. Countries compete for hegemony titles against others on the same continent. Each continent has its own Economic, Naval, Military, Diplomatic, and Cultural hegemon.
  • Era 5+: Continental hegemonies end and global hegemonies return. The world’s great powers now compete on the global stage. However since modding limitations prevent me from removing hegemonies from countries straight up, the continental hegemonies stay until naturally lost.

There is a game setting to disable global hegemony all together, to always have continental ones.

Game Rules (configurable in game setup)
  • Toggle hegemonies per continent: Europe, Asia, Africa (on by default), America, Oceania (off by default)
  • Competition scope: All Countries (default) (only great powers can become hegemony, you must beat everyone) or Great Powers Only
  • If all continents are disabled, global hegemonies activate from the start (vanilla behavior)

Features
  • Up to 25 continental hegemons (5 continents x 5 types) depending on settings
  • 5 global hegemons from era 5 onward (vanilla behavior)
  • Continental hegemons use the same modifiers and benefits as their global counterparts
  • By default, any independent country must be beaten to claim a continental hegemony. This setting can be changed back to the vanilla Great power only in the game settings.
  • 10% hysteresis threshold prevents hegemonies from flickering back and forth

Compatibility
  • Game version: 1.2.*
  • Replaces: common/hegemons, diplomacy_lateralview.gui
  • Not compatible with other mods that modify hegemony definitions or the diplomacy lateral view GUI
  • Tested loading into an existing save without issues, but mods can break things unpredictably
