Dr. Fetus (Super Meat Boy)
"Nobody loves Dr. Fetus, and that’s why Dr. Fetus hates you!"
Dr. Fetus has arrived in Rivals of Aether! (perfect timing, too, considering how someone just made Meat Boy…)
Like his appearance in Super Meat Boy, Dr. Fetus possesses a large amount of speed and a high jump, though this comes at the cost of no double jump and low traction in the air and on the ground, making him easy to combo.

His playstyle largely revolves around using your fantastic air speed to land your combo starters, such as your up tilt or neutral air, and use your abilities to create large, hard to escape combos, giving him a great advantage state. Dr. Fetus’ aerials are incredibly strong – primarily his up air and back air, which can be used for juggling and KO confirms, respectively. This is further strengthened by his unrivaled air speed – while Dr. Fetus possesses poor aerial traction, he has a maximum air speed and air acceleration higher than that of anyone in the base cast.
In addition to his powerful aerials, he can place a saw on the map with his down special for comboing attacks into, further amplifying his advantage strength and giving him strong edgeguarding against many characters. His side special is a valuable move, not only being able to function as a reliable combo starter at range, but can also be used to KO opponents at very early percents, albeit this is very risky and puts him at risk of self destructing. An alternative, safer option to edgeguarding is his neutral special, which can challenge many recoveries in the game easily and finish off opponents who barely survive an attack.
These strengths come at a cost, however. His ground game is rather mediocre – while his grounded attacks can work well as KO confirms or damage racking tools, they have poor range and leave him vulnerable for a good amount of time (he can use his low traction to effectively extend this range, though not by much). Furthermore, while his side and neutral specials grant him range, they also leave him vulnerable for a rather long time, allowing him to be punished if he’s interrupted mid-usage. His strong attacks, while powerful and capable of KOing rather early when sweetspotted (especially his side strong), also have relatively long windups that make them rather unviable in many circumstances.
His low traction, especially in the air, means he has a poor disadvantage state, as it will take him longer to regain control after being launched. He also has a rather weak recovery, taking a full second to complete and leaving him vulnerable to edgeguarding. This is compounded by the fact that he’s very light, which means that risky plays can lead to early KOs.
Overall, he’s a strong character with lots of combo and juggle potential, but his low range, light weight and poor recovery mean he has to play carefully, or else he’ll be KOed before his opponent
Dr. Fetus fires a fast moving rocket from his rocket launcher. These rockets can be controlled with the joystick, though control is lost the longer the rocket remains on the map for. After firing the rocket, he can use neutral special again to detonate the rocket manually, letting him move around again but doing less damage and knockback than a direct hit. Works well as a finisher (and does high damage regardless), but leaves him vulnerable for a long period of time.
Dr. Fetus fires a grappling hook with limited range. If he successfully hits an opponent, they’ll be pulled towards him and be knocked away in the direction your joystick is facing. Capable of pulling people through and comboing into saws, making this a reliable combo starter, though since it is also capable of spiking opponents, it can be a great, yet risky, edgeguarding tool/KO confirm
Dr. Fetus places down a sawblade at his current position with a lifetime of 20 seconds, although it will have its lifetime reduced upon hitting a player. Does mild damage and knockback on hit with little scaling, letting it function as a great combo extender. It also works very well as an edgeguarding tool, as you can rack up large amounts of damage simply by trapping the ledge.
Placing the saw also launches you up a bit, allowing you to use it as a recovery mix-up.
After a 1 second windup, Dr. Fetus will disappear in a puff of smoke and teleport a small distance in your current joystick direction. Very basic recovery, very telegraphed, and leaves Dr. Fetus helpless after he uses it, making it not your most ideal option
