SUBJ: EXERCISE MARE NOSTRUM 73 – OPERATIONAL ORDERS
EXERCISE ASW 1973 "MARE NOSTRUM"
1. SITUATION: The Spanish Navy is conducting high-readiness ASW exercises to evaluate recently integrated US technology. Tensions in the Mediterranean remain high, requiring peak proficiency in carrier group protection. A ‘Red’ submarine force is active West of the Balearic Islands with orders to intercept our transit to the mainland.
2. MISSION: Lead CVL Dédalo and escorting units from the current AO to the Port of Barcelona. Maintain a defensive screen and neutralize any underwater threats encountered during transit.
3. EXECUTION: Task Group 73.1 will maintain a high-speed transit, assign a destroyer to perform sonar picket duties using sprint-drift tactics. Use the SH-3D and AB-212 assets for long-range MAD/SONAR screening. MD-500 units will provide light scout support. Reach Barcelona harbor before 21:00Z.
4. BLUE ORDER OF BATTLE: – 1 x CVL Dédalo (Flagship)
4 x Churruca-class DD (FRAM II)
Air wing: 8 x SH-3D Sea King, 4 x AB-212 ASW, 2 x MD-500 Defender.
5. ENEMY ORDER OF BATTLE (EXPECTED): – 2 x S-60 Delfín-class submarines (Daphné variant)
1 x U-205-class submarine.
OPFOR will attempt to simulate torpedo runs on the Dédalo.
6. REMARKS: This is a test of our new ASW capabilities. Locate the threats before they get within firing range of the flagship. ALFLOT expects a flawless execution. Good luck.
