Prodigy – Character Skills Overhaul is an overhaul of the five main skills in Crusader Kings 3 designed to give characters more apparent strengths and weaknesses. Each skill now also has an associated Commander modifier, inspired by EU5’s ability system.

To further flesh out each character’s strengths and weaknesses, the mod includes an optional game system called Passion and Apathy, which in turn adds Skill Ambitions loosely inspired by Ambitions from Crusader Kings 2, providing short-term objectives to complete to further develop your character.

Highlights

Diplomacy
  • Knights are now associated with Diplomacy like in my other mods, representing your ability to command others but also others’ willingness to follow you.
  • Knight Limit now has a negative offset, making it possible for some characters to have 0 Knights.
  • Children will have a deficit in Prestige while growing up. Counteract this by granting them landed titles or by finding other sources of Prestige.
  • Commanders with low Diplomacy will take more losses when retreating from battles.

Martial
  • Men-at-Arms are now associated with Martial like in my other mods.
  • Travel Safety has been removed from Martial to give more weight to Travel Options and other sources.
  • Commanders with high Martial are very deadly when winning battles.

Stewardship
  • Levies are now associated with Stewardship like in my other mods.
  • Travel Speed has been removed from Stewardship to give more weight to Travel Options and other sources.
  • Commanders with high Stewardship will have more supply.

Intrigue
  • Intrigue modifiers now have negative offsets, making sources of Scheme Secrecy more valuable than in the base game.
  • Commanders with high Intrigue will complete sieges faster.

Learning
  • Characters with low Learning will gain more Stress, while characters with high Learning will gain less.
  • Children will have a deficit in Piety while growing up. Counteract this by ensuring that they acquire virtuous Personality Traits or by finding other sources of Piety.
  • Commanders with high Learning are better at attacking armies with high Defensive Advantage, representing their knowledge of history and battles long past.
Optional Game Rule: Passion and Apathy

Prodigy also adds an optional gameplay system that further expands on each character’s strengths and weaknesses with the addition of Skill Passion and Skill Apathy.

Skill Passion and Skill Apathy can be toggled separately with specific Game Rules.

Skill Ambitions are short-term personal goals, tied to a Skill Passion, that represent an inner desire or a dream that your character holds. Loosely inspired by Ambitions from Crusader Kings 2, they provide a small objective to pursue once you reach Adulthood, ranging from becoming a councilor, to accumulating a lot of gold, to simply traveling the world.

Completing such a Skill Ambition grants you an additional Personality Trait that matches the type of Skill Ambition you finished, e.g. completing an Intrigue Skill Ambition might grant the Deceitful trait, or completing a Stewardship Skill Ambition might grant the Greedy trait.

A full list of Skill Ambitions can be found here.

Prodigy makes no direct changes to the base game, only to files added by this mod and is as such compatible with any other mod or game version.
