Terra Nomina – Immersive Toponyms & Map Fixes

NOTE: The map font in the screenshots above is not included in this mod, please see this link to download
This mod serves as a spiritual successor to Rosetta, a dynamic province name mod I made several years ago. Unfortunately, the original file was lost and I was never able to update it. Terra Nomina expands on Rosetta quite substantially, with tens of thousands of new dynamic toponyms for most of the map, including Asia. In addition, it also makes some major map changes, including a reduction in county sizes, more historically accurate naming coventions, fixes to historical and geographical mistakes and omissions, and more aesthetically pleasing borders around the Danube and Rhine rivers and other areas.

This mod includes:
- Over 200,000 dynamic cultural names for empires, kingdoms, duchies, counties and baronies across the entire Crusader Kings 3 map.
- Major fixes to make the map more historically accurate, as well as a reduction in province sizes to make the map feel more dense. No new baronies have been added, so there should be no impact on performance.
- Better borders along major river systems.
Map Changes
- No more counties crossing the Danube and Rhine rivers
- No more Hungarian names in Pannonian basin before the Magyar invasion
- No more Russian names in steppe and Turkic lands
- No more German names in Polabia/Poland/Baltics before German settlement
- No more English names in Britain before the Norman invasion
- No more Turkish names in Anatolia before the Turks invade
- Reduction in county sizes in certain parts of the map
- Removed anachronistic toponyms as much as possible
- Removal of duplicate county and barony names, wrong barony locations, historical errors and egregious historical omissions

AI Disclaimer
Almost all toponyms in this mod were taken from historical or factual sources. However, some generative AI was used for dead languages such as Gothic, as no historical sources for city names in this language exist.
What is the difference between this mod and More Immersive Toponyms and More Cultural Names?
Purely down to preference, although More Immersive Toponyms is a bit more fantastical. This mod was entirely my own work, so it’s really up to you on which one you want to use.
East and West Francia have no dynamic names
The game unfortunately only allows you to have dynamic names for France and Germany if a Karling doesn’t hold the title. Nothing I can do about this, unfortunately.

This list gives an indication of toponym coverage for the different regions on the map. Cultures listed first under each region have more dynamic names, and cultures listed last have the least.

This mod is NOT compatible with any mods that alter the landed_titles.txt file, which includes
- More Immersive Toponyms
- More Cultural Names
- More Provinces Expanded
Using these with this mod will causes errors or crashes
As of right now, this mod is also not compatible with More Cultures Expanded. It will cause your game to crash. I am trying to figure out what is causing the problem, but have not been able to figure out the root cause so far.
All other mods should work, but if you come across any that cause errors, please let me know.
