Description:

A small collection of unit tweaks for the main campaign for my own use and for personal co-op campaigns, I’ve made it public though in case anyone else likes it and wants to use it. As this is built primarily for personal use it may not work for some people and I’m unlikely to maintain it too much, sorry in advance.

I’ve tried my best to keep the tweaks and additions grounded and balanced but some things may be unbalanced (either in general or to your personal taste), so be aware of that.

A breakdown of every change and the rationale behind it:

Unit stat adjustments:
– Noble Spearmen (Armenia)
Melee Defence: 51 -> 57
The Noble Spearmen have significantly less melee defence than other spear units at their price point. Their still weaker than elite Hellenic Hoplites but the difference is no longer as great.

– Noble Cavalry (Carthage)
Melee Attack: 37 -> 40
Melee Defence: 14 -> 21
Carthaginian Noble Cavalry are sorely lacking compared to other shock cavalry, and I didn’t like it. They aren’t the best shock cavalry but I disliked them being significantly worse than Persian Cavalry and Thessalian Cavalry while costing significantly more.

– Hippeus Lancers
Charge Bonus: 57 -> 63
Similar rationale to the upgrades to Carthaginian Noble Cavalry, I especially disliked them being one of the few shock cavalry units with less than 60 charge bonus.

– Pontic Royal Cavalry
Melee Attack: 46 -> 48
Compared to the other elite shock cavalry in their price point I found the Pontic Royal Cavalry just needed a little something to differentiate them.

– Agema Cavalry
Melee Attack: 46 -> 51
Charge Bonus: 76 -> 67
Agema Cavalry are identical to Companion Cavalry, and I didn’t like it. Traded Charge Bonus for Melee Attack, putting them in the middle ground of Companion Cavalry and Ptolemaic Cavalry.

– Massilian Cavalry
Cost: 500 -> 670
Weight: Medium -> Light
Melee Attack: 40 -> 46
Melee Defence: 50 -> 48 (Base: 10 -> 18; Shield: 40 -> 30)
Armour: 35 -> 50
Traits: Added Disciplined
I really liked the Massilian Cavalry when they were an elite Light Cavalry unit, it gave them a unique niche and made them a very interesting unit. At some point a patch turned them into Medium Cavalry and they were no longer cool to me, so I’ve tweaked them.

Existing units added to faction rosters:
Baktria: Light Hoplites
An additional hoplite unit that fits with Bactrian armour levels.

Cimmeria: Steppe Armoured Lancers, Steppe Noble Lancers
Cimmeria clearly has a relationship with the steppe peoples in order to recruit Steppe Noble Archers, yet for such a steppe friendly faction their melee/shock cavalry options were negligible. Gives the faction an interesting Hellenic/Steppe feel that I like.

Colchis: Light Hoplites, Light Peltast, Armoured Horse Archers
The Colchian roster is just a bit thin in my opinion, so adding Light Hoplites and Light Peltast gives them a couple more Hellenic options, and the Eastern Armoured Horse Archers gives them an extra Eastern unit to play with as well.

Epirus: Illyrian Raiders, Levy Thureos Spears
A couple more melee options for Epirus that gives them a lot of javelins to throw at their enemies.

Pergamon: Royal Peltast
Another small unit roster, the faction clearly likes Peltast so adding the Royal Peltast felt like a good addition. Should devalue Agema Spears too much hopefully.

Pontus: (Hellenic) Light Cavalry
I like Pontus, I like fast horses. Also seemed to make sense with their strong mid-high tier melee cavalry options.

Saba: Heavy Desert Spearmen
Ma’Rib Royal Guard exist as an elite spearmen. Ma’Rib Guard exist as a good spearmen but only as a mercenary unit… Rather than unravel that confusion I just stole Heavy Desert Spearmen from Nabataea, they don’t seem to have minded.

Seleucid: Hoplites
I do not understand how they were missing from their roster. It feels much better with them present in my opinion.

Tylis: Thracian Bowmen
This Gallo-Thracian faction really doesn’t have many Thracians in it… Easy fix and it gives them a bow option.

New General’s unit options:
Armenia: Azat Knights
"What do you mean our elite cavalry aren’t suitable bodyguards"

Carthage: Noble Cavalry
While the command units are interesting, they suck, if the Romans can put general’s in legions the Carthaginians can give them more and better horses.

Cimmeria: Steppe Noble Lancers
Steppe Noble Archers are an option, so it made sense for the lancers to be as well.

Epirus: Royal Peltast
They’re literally the King’s appointed troops, and they serve as bodyguards in other factions that have access to them.

Pergamon: Royal Peltast
See Epirus above.

Sparta: Spartan Hoplite
I don’t like factions only having one option for their General, while unlikely to be picked over the Royal Spartans I had to add them for my own sake.

Added units:
Ardiaei: Illyrian Noble Axemen – available as a General’s unit
The Illyrians have a really limited roster, and I like that, but it was a little too limited. As one of the few factions that use axes I figured I’d lean in and combine that with their heavily armoured hoplites.

Carthage: Sacred Band Cavalry
Inspired by the original Rome: Total War, an elite melee cavalry option.

Galatia: Galatian Noble Swords
Egypt has "Galatian Royal Guard" but the Galatian’s don’t have an equivalent? That needed to be fixed.

Getae: Sword Warriors
A basic sword unit akin to Celtic Warriors and Sword Band, but more defensively minded. I always found it weird how Getae had this beautiful progression of spear infantry but Noble Swords seemed to come from nowhere. Adding a basic sword unit helps sort that out.

Kush: Kushite Spearwomen
A mercenary unit that exists in the game but didn’t have a factional equivalent. Felt weird knowing the unit existed only as a mercenary.

Massilia: Massilian Archers
I like Massilia (a lot), but their limited ranged options annoyed me, so I gave them a good archer unit because I can.
