From the Ground Up: America
From the Ground Up is the best way to play as a colonial nation in Eu5 which, while already a valuable and well-crafted framework, still lacks the depth that it one day will have. Because we have focused solely on the Americas, the game runs incredibly quickly without losing what makes it special: the Triangle Trade, the Reformation, migration to the New World, and everything you need to feel like you’re going through the tribulations of colonial life. Slavery now actually works as a mechanic which while being a vile institution, in the context of this mod feels much better to use.
With 30+ playable colonial republics, 20+ formables, 60+ new events, reworked situations, new government reforms, and new progression systems. Listen folks, nobody else has put this much thought and care into making colonies feel amazing.
I could seriously write so much more about the different fun ways to play, and I even feel the urge to give suggestions, but I know if you’re considering this mod then you want new stuff, I just have to decide which one will be the most interesting to you. There is genuinely that much.
So how about fixing the useless Pop-based Countries for more early game challenge, new resource-producing estate buildings to fill out gaps in small economies, a late-game Pirate disaster, and a Little Ice Age? Natives now form difficult coalitions. Trade with them for early game resource shortages but don’t expect them not to adapt. Unlike in basegame they are numerous and able to use new institutions.
I’m honestly just so proud to talk about everything we’ve done. The team at Paradox has busted their balls to make their magnum opus; a true worldwide simulation of resources and culture, building on what they tried to do with Vicky along with everything that worked in Imperator. I’m certain a lot of the ideas we’ve done are already being considered for the real game and they simply haven’t gotten to it yet. But for now, this is the best humanity has to offer when it comes to simulating colonial life, and we intrepid few will lead the way.

As it stands now the RGOs in the new world reflect what would have been in the area at the time and what could be grown by the natives, the millions of people who also play a huge part in making this mod so exciting. What we have done is added events to change RGOs to what they would have become under your colonies reign. Much needed resources such as Tin and Horses are now able to be obtained through events that while coming at an upfront cost, will pay you back in dividends.
Originally designed as a multiplayer experience, the mod has since been adapted for single-player, offering a unique and highly replayable campaign.
Because this mod changes colonial setup, countries, progression, and regional content in the Americas, it will likely conflict with other mods that alter:
- the map
- country setup
- colonial mechanics
- scripted New World content
This mod is constantly being changed, the main thing being focused on right now is making estate buildings feel realistic but to also have them create a situation where the player feels they need to make a decision on if they feel the building benefits the province more than it detracts from it.
- More regional or colony-specific events
- 10 New Brazil and Argentina Colonies
- 5-8 New Chinese/Japanese/Korean Colonies on the West Coast of North America
- Slave uprising events and Slave rebellion disaster
- Reworking the Conquistador mechanic for a possible late-to-end-game boss
