Fictional Vessel
The USS Hawaii (designation unchanged) was not scrapped. Instead, during its continued construction, it underwent missile conversion, featuring the installation of anti-aircraft missiles and the removal of its B-turret main guns to be replaced with ballistic missile launch silos. The originally planned 127mm/38 Mark 12 were upgraded to the more advanced 76mm/70 Mark 26. In the 1980s, it underwent a modernization refit, receiving a modern mast radar and electronic warfare systems. Tomahawk launch boxes, similar to those on the Iowa-class battleships, were installed, and the ballistic missile launch silos were converted into triple Tomahawk launchers.
