BBG-X TRUMP CLASS
The Trump-class battleship is a new type of warship announced by U.S. President Trump on December 22, 2025, at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. It is planned to replace the existing U.S. Navy fleet. The plan is to initially build 2 ships, with an additional 8 ships to follow, and the ultimate goal is to form a ‘Golden Fleet’ of 20 to 25 ships. It is claimed to be equipped with hypersonic weapons, railguns, cruise missiles, and laser weapons, with a displacement design of 30,000 to 40,000 tons.
The construction plan is based on the presidential order ‘Restoring American Maritime Dominance’ signed by Trump in April 2025, but it faces a labor shortage in the shipbuilding industry, with an existing workforce averaging 55 years old and a 20% loss of younger labor. To address this, robot shipbuilding has been proposed, but a new shipyard would take ten years to deliver the warships. The U.S. Navy previously canceled the construction of the Constellation-class frigates due to budget overruns, and experts note that the cost of a single Trump-class battleship could reach $10 to $12 billion, with its tactical value being disputed.
The U.S. Navy will first build 2 Trump-class battleships, followed by 8 more. Trump stated that he envisions building a total of 20 to 25 of these battleships as part of the new ‘Golden Fleet’ of the U.S. Navy. Construction is expected to officially start in 2030, with each ship planned to be completed in two and a half years, and the cost per ship is estimated to be $10 to $15 billion, all to be built by domestic shipyards in the U.S.
