Notes on the Approach

If you are using these packs, I suggest you calibrate your expectations: this is a decent rough draft that is still being dialed in.

These voicepacks rely on highlighting the natural charisma of the actor’s performances and goofier side of Mulder and Scully. There are (very occasional) references to X-Files lore and paranormal investigations, but the emphasis is on Scully and Mulder’s interrelationship. A lot of lines they spoke to each other are now being directed at you, Commander. I think you’ll enjoy the vibe, even if their delivery will probably seem a bit laid back in a combat situation.

There are rough edges. The variable recording quality of the show – not to mention the significant evolution of the characters and the consistency of their vocal delivery – may show.

Again, this pack aims to be fun. It is not focused on the dark conspiracy vibes of the X-Files. It leans into the goofier side of Mulder, and the sassier, more human side of Scully typified by both actors’ performances from Seasons 5-7, following what fans refer to as the "Scully thaw."

FAQ

What source material have you reviewed / used in this pack?

Both X-Files movies, Season 1, Season 2, Season 5, Season 6, and Season 7, and a limited selection of individual episodes from other seasons.

Why did you choose those sources?
By the time the TV show reached Season 5, 6, and 7, both actors (and their writers) had a robust & dynamic command of their roles and a consistency in their vocal performances. Also – the recording quality of the TV show wasn’t super great or consistent until the later seasons.

I drew from the movies because they (occasionally) feature more varied performances than was typical of the procedural investigation narratives of the TV show.

What about <my favorite line> from <my favorite episode>?
Despite having attempting something as involved as this voicepack, I don’t really consider myself an expert on the X-Files or its lore. If there is some golden opporunity for an XCom cue spoken by either agent in an episode from another season, drop it in the comments or message me on the modding discord.

Known Issues
  • Scully lacks a "LowAmmo" cue.
  • Volume normalization will come in subsequent releases. The best current solution is to manually modify the volume multiplier in the XComVolumeConfig.ini file in the mod’s "Config" directory. Recommend you do not increase further than 2.0x
    Roadmap for Future Planned Updates

    – Initial Release (April 2026) of first playable prototype.
    – Expect a revised version.
    – Some of what makes these characters likable on television is their evolving relationship with each other. I may experiment with adding additional versions of the voicepacks that make explicit reference to one another (i.e. some cues will cause Scully or Mulder to comment to – or about – one another. For those of you enjoy soldier bondmate dynamics this might be a special treat.

    Compatibility & Setup

Should work fine with either Vanilla or WOTC, VoicePatcher or not. The Alternative Mod Launcher (AML) is recommended in all cases. These were created following the method outlined in Ayser’s Voicemod tutorial.
