Description:
Succession Crisis

"Mom said it’s my turn to be King."
– Sven

WIP

The complete rework of the Supreme Council system has killed 1000 bugs and bred 2000 more. They will be exterminated. This mod is receiving daily updates.

Sidenote: It might look like an AGOT submod, but it’s not. Playable on most total conversions and vanilla.

Summary

The old King is dead, so why does it feel like barely anyone noticed? The Crown falling into the hands of a child or an unfit ruler should be a harrowing affair.

This mod deals with the immediate fallout of a ruler’s death. Now every succession is an event that may define your rule, for better or worse.

Crisis Meter

Just take a look at your heir and think "Is this someone that would be considered a weak ruler?"

  • For every bad traits your heir has (arrogant, craven, sadistic.. etc) it will add+ 1 to the meter.
  • For physical disabilities like being maimed or disfigured it will add +1 to the meter.
  • Being of a different culture or faith will +2 to the meter.
  • And so on. There are many things that are accounted for that will increase the meter.
  • Every so often, you will be notified of your heir’s general aptitude and whether or not a possible crisis will occur upon your death.
  • The crisis will occur should the meter pass a certain threshold.
    The Crisis

Upon a ruler’s death, several things will happen:

    • The heir is instantly notified of the death. Now instead of teleporting immediately to the capital, they will now have to physically make their way to the capital from wherever they are to stake their claim.
    • Up to 2 potential claimants are notified to do the same thing.
    • Whoever gets there first is in a position to immediately seize the throne. Yes, that’s right. If you were spending the past 3 years fighting in Jerusalem and your pop just kicked the bucket in England, good luck! Sven will now sail to London and plop his ass right in your comfy chair.

      BUT DONT PANIC
There are several ways to resolve the crisis. Hopefully your heir is a well rounded person.

If Sven is planting his fat ass on your throne, you can:

    • Call for a Great Council! You will gather all the powerful lords of the land to participate in a deliberation for the throne.
    • Give up. You will lose your claim to the main title, but keep all your remaining lands if you were distributed any.
    • Of course, the obvious. Total War . More explanation of this below.

    The Supreme Council
    • The SUPREME Council is now updated to use the Activity system. Instead of just simple event based back and forth, you will now be engaged in a Supreme Council activity, attended by hundreds of important Lords and Ladies and the masses of unwashed peasants.
    • A NEW scoring system has been added, reworking the crappy old system that was deadlocking all the time. Now there are possibilities to interact with people in the court, and sway them to your side! (these events are pretty basic right now but will be improved.)
    • Note: When the notification event pops up notifying you of the Council’s start, you will have roughly a few months to go over there. Option A will allow you to go immediately (which is the preferable method), Option B will allow you to go on your own time, but remember that they will not wait forever. If you are late to this Council that you have requested, the realm will turn against you.
      Supreme Council Scoring
    • For claimants, the meter at the bottom of the event DOES NOT represent YOUR support. that meter represent the HOST’s support.
    • If you are a USURPED HEIR, you will be considered a Pretender in the eyes of the court. Your goal is to keep that meter low.
    • The CURRENT HOLDER of the title is always the HOST, so if that’s you, keep the meter high!
    • If you are a CLAIMANT and the heir secured the throne, you are a PRETENDER.

The Scoring system depends on Council Support, which is a value of how much the court favors the Current Title Holder (Host) over the Pretender.

    • All attendees of the Council has a say in who the ruler will be! Score distributions are as follows:
      1. Powerful Vassals of the Title
      2. Regular Vassals of the Title
      3. Foreign Kings/Emperors
      3. Theocratic Vassals
      4. Republican Vassals or Others
      5. Foreign Dukes/Counts

    Total War

Ahh, so the claim will be pressed in blood and fire, like they do in the 80s. Here’s how this war works:

    • When you declare for War through the event, there will be a short period where you call the banners and see who will respond.
    • All Lords, big and small will be asked to answer the call, high Lords who respond will let you know.
    • Within a month or so, the war will begin, plunging the Kingdom into total chaos. Many will die.
    • Sometimes the Usurper will be faced with a 2 front war, where the secondary claimant will also attempt to press their claim.
    • Foreign invaders will have to bring their own vassals through other means, EXCEPT if they are your house member.
    • The War will not end even on the death of the Warleaders on opposing side , ala Hundred Years War style. The War will continue until one side is decisively defeated.

Current governments that have this mechanic available is:
    -Clan
    -Tribal
    -Feudal
    -CHINA
    -Administrative

-Governors are blocked from succession wars as it’s not supposed to be a hereditary thing.

    Consolidation of Power Update!

    – Now when your heir turns 16, they are prompted to go and visit some lords to gain supporters in case of a crisis.
-Lords that accept the requests will be on your side for the war if it happens.
    – The claimants are also prompted to go gather support if they want the throne. Gather support for your claim, or risk losing the vassal to the other side!
    – You can of course opt out of the negotiations if you are uninterested in claiming the throne.

    Realm Fracture Update!

-Implemented a similar version of AGOT’s Megawar. Now upon war start, the claimant will declare their Right to Rule and secede, and all their supporters will join their side.
    – It is now important to go gather support when you can, especially in a big realm like AGOT’s.
-The realm is returned to prewar state upon one side’s victory.
-Only claimants from inside the realm will declare independence and secede for the duration of the war, so no bordergore!
    – AGOT: Do not panic if you become "Feudal" instead of "Feudal Paramountcy" when you become temporarily independent for the war. This does not affect how the war play out, nor does it affect AGOT’s Megawar system. Feudal Paramountcy is a system only meant for The Iron Throne and its vassals. As you are a competing power, you are NOT a vassal of the throne, therefore you are Feudal. AGOT already handles vanilla Feudal government as Dorne starts off as Feudal, not Feudal Paramountcy. Everything is fully restored upon victory or defeat.

    Compatibility

    Compatible with MIV.
    Compatible with AGOT, God willing.
Has not been tested on other overhauls, try it and let us know.

    Safe to add and remove.

    Future Plans
    • Special War mechanics.
    • Special Council mechanics.
    • Any many other Post-Succession related things.
    • The event for consolidation of support will at some point be turned into an activity also.
