Dynamic Horde Events B42
Tired of sitting safely inside your base while absolutely nothing happens?
Cleared the neighborhood, boarded the windows, stacked food for three months, and now the apocalypse feels more like a sad farming simulator?
Dynamic Horde Events adds highly configurable incoming zombie horde events to Project Zomboid.
Sometimes the dead will find you. Sometimes you will hear them before you see them. And sometimes the sky itself will tell you that staying home was a terrible idea.
This mod is designed to bring back pressure, danger, and unpredictability without turning every day into a constant zombie flood.
At configurable time intervals, a horde can spawn at a distance from the player and begin moving toward them.
You can configure:
- minimum and maximum time between horde events
- horde size
- spawn radius
- cooldown between events
- night-time spawning rules
- attraction radius and volume
The goal is simple: make the world feel dangerous again, even after you cleared your local area. Now you almost have to barricade windows and doors since they can come even at your night sleep
Wandering Hordes are different from normal horde attacks.
Instead of being attracted directly toward the player’s position, a Wandering Horde is spawned on one side of the player and guided toward a point beyond the player’s area.
In simple terms:
Spawn Side —> Player Area —> Exit Direction
This means the horde can pass through or near your location instead of directly hunting you.
If you stay quiet, hide, and avoid making noise, the horde may pass by.
If you shoot, drive, trigger an alarm, use loud tools, or make too much noise, the situation can quickly become your problem.
Wandering Hordes are meant to create tense “hold your breath and don’t move” moments.
Your character can react when a horde is coming. Lines are short, random, and can be disabled through sandbox options.
When a horde event starts, the player gets a visual warning showing where the threat is coming from.
The indicator shows:
- horde direction
- distance
- zombie count
- event type
A warning sound plays when a horde is incoming.
This gives you a short moment to react:
- prepare defenses
- grab weapons
- run
- panic professionally
Hordes can scale over time based on survived days or survived months.
You can configure:
- scaling mode: Off / Days / Months
- scaling interval
- multiplier per interval
- maximum multiplier cap
Example: Every 7 days, horde size increases by 10%, up to 150%.
This keeps the pressure alive without instantly throwing an entire city at you
A rare ultra-hardcore horde event can happen after a long survival period.
This is not a normal horde.
This is the kind of event where your character hears the sound and immediately starts questioning every life choice that led to this moment.
Cataclysm hordes have separate settings:
- enable / disable Cataclysm Horde
- minimum and maximum days before event
- zombie count
- spawn radius
- warning duration
- attraction radius and volume
Every 90–120 days, a massive horde can arrive.
This is meant for long-term saves where the map starts feeling too safe after you clear nearby locations.
When a Cataclysm Horde begins, the weather can change dramatically letting you know that this time it’s serious.
The mod triggers:
- tropical storm
- heavy rain
- stronger wind
- fog
- darker atmosphere
- desaturated screen feel
Large hordes (specially cataclysm ones) can affect performance depending on your system, zombie settings, map location, and other mods.
If you want a smoother experience, reduce:
– maximum horde size
– Cataclysm maximum zombies
– attraction radius
– spawn frequency
Tested on B42.17
Yes. It does. But I didn’t test it well enough so there might be issues
Should be compatible with everything
Adds more variety to the hordes and options to defend your base
