Description:

This started as a personal mod to practice some CK3 modding, but others might enjoy it too.

The Direnni are one of my favourite pieces of TES lore. They have like a billion weird things they apparently did and live in the original tower left by the Aedra that maybe keeps the world functioning, but we’ve also never really gotten to interact with them. Like what’s up with these guys? What are they doing in there???

Although base EK2 already has some unique stuff for them, I wanted to make a few additions and adjustments. This stuff is based on what we have in that lore, but it also leans on my own interpretation and creative embellishment.

I built this to be as “light” as possible so that I wouldn’t have to do more work for it to function with any other submods I use. This means it does not overwrite any files, but it does overwrite a number of decisions, triggers and effects related to the content. It should work out of the box with anything that doesn’t itself alter Direnni-related content, but if you are using something that adds more hegemony-tier titles or royal courts they might conflict.

Quick summary:

  • Hegemony-tier Direnni Hegemony title
  • New upgradeable special building on Balfiera
  • Balfiera styled as "Castellany" with "Castellan" ruler title
  • Gives Adamantine Tower the Ayleid styled throne room
  • New decision to expand Kingdom ("Arcastellany") of Balfiera
  • Adds Bretic Traditions doctrine to Ada-Mantia faith
  • Makes other Ada-Mantia doctrines a bit more tolerant
  • Makes Direnni Hegemony decision more flexible, adds diplo options
  • Special spellsword MaA if you form Direnni Hegemony
  • Edited or rewrote most of the relevant flavor text and etc for Direnni related content

Full changes:

  • Adds a new (duchy-type) special building to Balfiera, which reflects a little of what we’ve seen/heard of the isle other than the tower itself. It is in a declined state at game start, but if you manage to rebuild the Hegemony you can upgrade it to make it a fitting capital.
  • Sword’s Rest now starts as a possession of the Glenpoint Dukes instead of Direnni. I suspect this was only Direnni for diplo range with Alinor, which is now provided by the new building.
  • Adds a decision to incorporate the duchies of Koegria and Bhoraine into the Kingdom of Balfiera, as well as a decision for Wayrest and Camlorn to revert them back. You can achieve this through diplomacy as well as conquest if you want to lean into the diplomatic Direnni playstyle (or you can just do more of the usual conquest).
  • Makes the Duchy of Balfiera styled as the Castellany of Balfiera, and the ruler the Castellan (instead of “Kinhold” and “Kinlady/lord” at present). The Kingdom-tier title is “Arcastellan” because I thought it sounded cool.
  • Changed the conditions for the first decision to form the Hegemony (which creates the empire-tier, or “high king-tier” in EK2, title) so there is some flexibility in where/how you expand. You will need to control all of Balfiera+Camlorn+Wayrest at a minimum, then at least 2 more regions of 4 have to be entirely controlled by you and/or by other rulers of your dynasty, and/or rulers allied to you. Again this gives you some more playstyle options.
  • The second decision to form the Hegemony now gives you a hegemony-tier (or “empire-tier” in EK2) version of the Direnni Hegemony. This is a smaller hegemony-tier title than the others in the base mod right now, but it just seemed wrong for a hegemony-tier version of this title not to exist.
  • Gives any royal court based in Adamantia the Ayleid/Yespest-style throne room from the base mod, which seems more fitting for a court based in the Adamantine Tower.
  • Adds a new spellsword MaA type for if you form the Hegemony, similar to the Breton Hedge Knights of Glenumbra.
  • Edits, rewrites and replaces most of the localization (flavor text etc) in stuff related to the Direnni.
  • Adjusts Ada-Mantia doctrines:
  • Makes a few of the Deadra who are more popular with the Druids and Bretons shunned instead of criminal
  • Makes witchcraft shunned instead of criminal (again, druids)
  • Adds the Bretic traditions doctrine to Ada-Mantia. Ggiven that the Breton rite has 3 Aedric gods and traditional Aedra-worship seems to have been a big influence on the Bretons, I can’t see a reason for Ada-Mantia not to have this while Breton rite does.
  • Adds Altmeris liturgical language to Ada-Mantia

Then maybe some other things I forgot.

As mentioned above, this is designed to be light for ease of use/maintenance but also is just a personal mod really. If anyone uses it and has problems you can comment and I’ll take a look, but no promises. Ditto on updates. At some point in the future I might make a “heavy” version of this with some broader changes/additions to High Rock. Real Manmeri type shi.
