Grand Remembrance: Elder Kings 2

An Elder Kings 2 submod for Grand Remembrance

Updated for CK3 1.19 (Scribe) — v1.7.0

This is the Elder Kings 2 compatibility submod for Grand Remembrance. It adapts the chronicle system to work with Tamriel and its pantheon, replacing vanilla references with Elder Scrolls equivalents so your obituaries actually make sense in the setting.

If you don’t know what Grand Remembrance does: when your ruler dies, the mod generates a personalized obituary written by someone who actually knew them. The tone shifts depending on whether the chronicler loved them, hated them, or barely cared. This submod makes that work properly with EK2’s faiths, cultures, supernatural traits, and government types.

What this submod does
  • Replaces vanilla faith references with Elder Scrolls religions — the Eight Divines, the Daedric Princes, Sovngarde, the Old Gods of the Reach, the Hist, the Far Shores, the Sands Behind the Stars, and others
  • Replaces vanilla culture references with Tamrielic races and peoples
  • Adapts death text to match each faith’s cosmology — a Nord who dies in battle goes to Sovngarde, a Dunmer returns to the ancestral tombs, a Khajiit walks the Sands Behind the Stars
  • Detects and describes supernatural traits: Dragonborn, Vampire, Lycan, Lich, Necromancer, Battlemage, Saint, Briarheart, Hagraven, and Shadowscale
  • Recognizes birthsigns and weaves them into the obituary text
  • Tracks 16 EK2-specific war types including Tamriel Reconquest, nomadic migrations, pirate wars, supernatural conflicts, and the Dres-Argonian slavery war
  • Tracks 21 EK2 government types so government changes during a ruler’s reign are recorded accurately

Supported faiths

Each faith has its own death narration with old age, battle, and murder variants:

  • Aedric (the Eight Divines) — passage to Aetherius
  • Daedric (the Princes) — passage to Oblivion
  • Sovngarde — the honored dead join Shor’s feast-fires
  • Atmoran — ancient Nord traditions tied to Sovngarde
  • Velothi — Dark Elf ancestor worship and the sacred tombs
  • Reach (Old Gods) — reborn in the earth and briars
  • Hist — Argonian return to the Hist
  • Sithis — the Void
  • Far Shores — the Redguard ocean journey
  • Sands Behind the Stars — Khajiit afterlife
  • Aurbis — Tsaesci serpent cosmology
  • Dwemer — the unknowable fate of the Deep Elves

Requirements
  • Grand Remembrance (required, this submod does nothing on its own)
  • Elder Kings 2 (required)

Load Order

This matters. Load them in this order or things won’t work correctly:

  1. Elder Kings 2
  2. Grand Remembrance
  3. Grand Remembrance: Elder Kings 2 (this mod)

The submod needs to load last so it can override the base mod’s vanilla references with EK2-specific ones.

Compatibility

This submod is designed to work alongside EK2 and any EK2 submods that don’t heavily alter core faith, culture, or title structures. If you’re running other EK2 submods and run into weird text in your obituaries, let me know and I’ll take a look.

Save compatible. Rulers who died before installing will not have obituaries, but everything going forward works as expected.

A note on coverage

Elder Kings 2 is enormous. I’ve covered the major faiths, races, supernatural traits, government types, and war types, but there may be edge cases where a niche regional faith or obscure culture produces a generic line instead of something tailored. If you spot something that feels off, drop a comment with the details and I’ll get it sorted.
