W. & A. R. R. #3 "The General"
Western and Atlantic #3 was an American type locomotive built in 1855 by the Rogers locomoive company.
Most notably during the civil war the locomotive was stolen by Union spies to destroy key points along the railroad which was acting as a vital supply line for Confederate forces, it was chased down by The Texas for 51 miles along the rail line before it was abandoned. The event known as "The Great Locomotive Chase" was the first time the Medal of Honor was given out to soldiers for the survivors of the raid as well as posthumously awarded medals to the families of the men who were killed or executed.
Currently the locomotive is on display at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw Georgia.
