Description:

"Texas" was built in 1856 for the Western and Atlantic Railroad as a freight locomotive performing freight and passenger service, in 1862 during the civil war she was famously comandeered to chase down another W & A R R locomotive named "The General" which had been stolen by Union Spies. After the war she continued to serve the W & A R R during the reconstruction era where she was numbered No. 49, in 1877 she was renumbered 12 and converted to burn coal.

in 2015 after some passing around she was restored to her 1880’s condition and in 2017 moved to the Atlanta History Center.
