Talkative Kenshi CLEAN FIX
A deep clean-up of the mod Talkative Kenshi, made to fix it and keep only what matters most: new dialogues for Kenshi.
Talkative Kenshi is a pretty cool mod. It adds a lot of dialogues into the game, especially for characters associated with various Personality Traits. But sadly, it is not… very clean. It changes way too much things for what it is supposed to do.
List of problems:
– All characters had the Player CIVILIAN packages containing the TK dialogue entries assigned to them, which resulted in everyone talking like a random civilian, no matter whether they were Sheks, Skeletons, Hivers, tough mercs, thugs, etc.
– Many characters were given a "True" value when being named in-game (using the pool of names like "Horse" instead of being called "Mercenary" for example).
– Combat dialogues only worked when fighting enemies, and there were many inconsistencies, such as non-Shek Kingdom Sheks screaming for Kral, Skeleton characters being openly racist toward everyone for no reason, and many honorable, smart, or kind characters using very derogatory language, even though Kenshi makes it clear that only PT_TRAITOROUS or PT_COLD_CRUEL characters might behave that way.
– Many, many, many useless additions or corrections in the FCS like changing world states, factions, squads, duplicating other mods’ contents, or other complex values which resulted in very unstable playthroughs and a lot of incompatibilities with other mods.
I removed all the unnecessary additions and "corrections" made to characters, world states, factions, and squads, among other things, so that Talkative Kenshi could be compacted into a few dialogue packages that I could simply add to the pool of pre-existing vanilla dialogue packages. I also removed all the "Named" references Talkative Kenshi changed back to their original state.
I adjusted most time limits, repetition limits, and node conditions to make sure that only fitting characters would speak the specific TK dialogues, and not spam them 24/7 like in the original mod which would result in massive lags when being close to cities.
I corrected all errors and duplicated items that were still present in the base mod FCS.
And of course, I playtested this fix for approximately 50 hours in my own game to make sure everything fits correctly.
Now, your Shek Warriors will not talk about drinking alcohol and partying, Hiver Ronins will no longer talk about missing their grandpa, fighting any hostile target will trigger appropriate dialogues, and Talkative Kenshi will no longer interfere with other mods or prevent the game from having lore-friendly dialogue.
TLDR: Talkative Kenshi is reduced to a few dialogue packages only, and assigned cleanly into the vanilla dialogue package system. All unecessary additions and changes were removed/changed back into their original state.
The scope of this patch is to clean the original mod and make it lore-friendly.
Any dialogue content from Talkative Kenshi still belongs to its original author.
I am simply a modest modder who "fixed and cleaned" this mod because I enjoy it a lot, but could not bear leaving it out of my mod list just because it was too unstable or not lore-friendly.
I will not add, remove, or edit more dialogues. They do not belong to me, and I do not want to prevent people who enjoy the original Talkative Kenshi dialogues from continuing to enjoy them.
The goal is to keep this patch lore-friendly and compatible with huge overhauls or your 400+ mods mod list.
Safe to install or remove mid-save.
Don’t forget to import your game when adding or removing mods!
Talkative Kenshi edits a LOT of data from other mods. So ideally, you want Talkative Kenshi loaded as soon as possible in your load order, then Talkative Kenshi CLEAN FIX right after to clean all the unnecessary datas.
Both Talkative Kenshi and my TK CLEAN FIX should be loader AFTER your core/graphical/UI/performance mods, and BEFORE all your dialogue mods, content-adding mods (races, towns, gears, items, factions, npcs, etc), and total overhauls (UWE, KAIZO, etc) to set things up properly.
If your load order follows the above instructions, Talkative Kenshi and its CLEAN FIX become compatible with any other mod!
Talkative Kenshi mod patches like "Talkative Kenshi Less Named NPCs" are now redundant if Talkative Kenshi CLEAN FIX is loaded.
All my mods are made with the intention of being highly compatible with each other!
