MERCENARY REGENERATION

MERCENARY REGENERATION is a lightweight Kenshi mod that allows non-unique mercenary squads to respawn after a few in-game days.

Why should I use this mod?

You hire Mercenary squads to bodyguard you or defend your outpost, and either they die during another mission, when going back home, or during duty. So you come back to the city to hire more, but they are nowhere to be found. Because in the base game, mercenary squads don’t respawn, so you can actually be locked forever from getting more mercenaries.

But mercenaries shouldn’t be a rare occurence in Kenshi, it’s a never-ending world at war after all, so it makes sense that more mercenaries should appear and take their place.

Other mods that try to fix this problem often are sometimes outdated for the current FCS or Kenshi mechanics, or they change far too much, which can lead to many incompatibilities or unstable playthroughs.

What does this mod change?

This mod only edits a single line in specific squads, setting "Regenerates" from "False" to "True".

These specific squads must meet all the following criteria:
– They contain the dialogue package "mercenary guild", which is the one used to hire mercenaries.
– They should not use an AI behavior like being a town guard, police patrol, or anything else beside mercenary work.
– They contain no unique characters.

Scope

MERCENARY REGENERATION does NOT change any world state, dialogue, contracts, AI packages, faction relations, equipment, or any character. It edits only the relevant vanilla mercenary-related squads in the FCS.

This mod simply assumes that if a location is supposed to regularly have mercenaries around, they should not disappear forever just because they died once. That feels unrealistic and more like a bug than an intended game-design.

More in the future?

I will not edit or add anything outside of mercenaries respawning.
Keeping this mod lore-friendly, compatible with huge overhauls, and your 400+ mods modlist is the objective.

Compatibility

Safe to install or remove mid-save.
Should be compatible with pretty much anything.
Don’t forget to import your game when adding or removing mods!

MERCENARY REGENERATION should ideally be loaded after total overhauls or other mods that might set the "Regenerates" line back to "False" for mercenary-related squads.
