EU5 reimagined as a hand-drawn historical atlas — cream parchment land, pastel realms, ink borders.
Version 0.2.1 (early access) • EU5 1.2.x • Part of the Ultimate Mod Collection
UVM turns the EU5 map into the kind of map a campaign deserves to be remembered on: a flat parchment atlas. Country colours are washed softly over cream paper so they read as muted pastels, the seas are a calm atlas blue with a glow at every coastline, and borders become fine ink lines. The flat paper look holds at every zoom level, in both Terrain and Political modes.
It is a visual mod only — no gameplay, balance, or map-data changes — so it stays achievement-safe and you can add or remove it whenever you like.
- Parchment atlas map — cream paper land with a subtle aged-paper grain, flat at every zoom.
- Soft pastel realms — saturated country colours washed over the paper read as muted atlas tones.
- Atlas seas — calm, gray, dark blue water with a soft blue glow radiating from every coastline.
- Ink borders — fine opaque black country outlines and readable province lines.
- Clean sans serif labels — uses Noto Sans for the amp font.
- Whole world visible — fog-of-war darkening removed; deeper, more visible rivers.
- Visual only — no gameplay changes, achievement-safe, add or remove anytime.
- Land — a warm cream parchment base with a faint paper mottle. Country colours are layered translucently over it, so even EU5’s vivid palette settles into soft atlas pastels without per-country editing.
- Sea — a flat, muted atlas blue (no diagonal hatch), with a soft glow from every shoreline into the water, the way old maps shade their coasts.
- Borders — country borders are fine, fully opaque black ink lines; province borders are thickened so they stay readable over pale fills. Location borders keep their light dashed style.
- Labels — all map names render in PT Serif (a classic transitional serif) with the white outline removed, for clean black text on cream.
- Rivers — drawn in a deeper blue and kept visible even when you zoom out.
- No fog-of-war dimming — undiscovered and out-of-sight land is shown at full brightness, so the whole map reads like a finished atlas page.
- No gameplay change. No values, rules, events, or AI behaviour are touched.
- No map-data change. Same locations, provinces, borders, and terrain — only how they are drawn.
- No content. UVM adds look, not mechanics.
- EU5 version: 1.2.*
- Requires: none.
- Ironman & achievements: safe — UVM is texture/shader/define-only and does not change gameplay.
- Save-safe: add or remove at any time; it only affects rendering.
- Other mods: conflicts only with mods that override the same map shaders, map_modes, or map fonts. Load UVM after other visual mods for its look to win.
- Ultimate Mod Collection: pairs with UPM (performance), UGM (gameplay) and UCT (tools).
- Note: first launch requires a full game restart (the colour defines load at startup), and clearing the shader cache may be needed if the map looks unchanged.
This is an early-access version — the look is still being tuned. Screenshots and feedback in the Discord directly shape where it goes next.
