Description:

WARNING: this mod is considered a WORK IN PROGRESS. Features will continue to be added and this has shown to break save games that were being played before updates. I will work on making older versions available so that you can continue to play your save until this mod is considered feature complete. New saves made after updates have not shown issues, only saves made before an update.

Occupations Expanded: Mental Health adds new mental health-focused occupations to Paralives, designed to fit the tone, structure, and flavor of the vanilla occupations.

This mod expands several workplaces with new career paths related to counseling, therapy, psychology, social work and mental health administration. Whether your Para wants to work in a clinic, hospital, or school setting, this mod gives them new ways to build a career helping others.

What This Mod Adds:

New Occupations:

The new occupations can be found under the Social Services tab in the "Find a Job" menu.

Clinic:

  • Intake Specialist – Level 1
  • Mental Health Clinician – Level 2
  • Mental Health Supervisor – Level 3
  • Child Psychologist – Level 3
  • Psychiatric Nurse- Level 3
  • Psychiatrist – Level 4
  • Clinical Director – Level 5

Hospital:

  • Case Manager – Level 1
  • Intake Specialist – Level 1
  • Social Worker – Level 2
  • Mental Health Clinician – Level 2
  • Mental Health Supervisor – Level 3
  • Child Psychologist – Level 3
  • Psychiatric Nurse- Level 3
  • Psychiatrist – Level 4
  • Director of Mental Health – Level 5

Elementary School:

  • School Counselor – Level 2

High School:

  • School Counselor – Level 2

New Career Perks:

Experience four new Career Perks as your Para progresses through the social services industry.

  • Breakthrough with Client:
At the end of the workday, your Para has a random chance of receiving +1, +3, or +5 Happiness.
  • Group Clinical Supervision:
At the end of the workday, your Para gains +1 coworker relationship level with a random coworker.
  • Burnout:
This is an instant event that gives your Para +2 Stressed.
  • Continuing Education:
This event allows your Para to slowly learn the Counseling skill throughout the workday.

New Skills:

Learn two new skills connected to the new occupations.

  • Counseling:
The Counseling skill is learned by the "Review Case Notes" option on the computer. You only gain access to this upon accepting a career in the social services industry. You can also take the Continuing Education career perk, which allows your Para to learn this skill slowly while working.
  • Psychology:
The Psychology skill can be developed by the "Learn about Psychology" option on the computer or reading a psychology book. This skill is useful for Paras pursuing the higher level fields within the social services industry.

New Life Goal:

Rise to the top of the social services industry with a brand new Life Goal, Master Clinician.

New Thought Cards:

Use two brand new interactions that only become available upon joining the social services industry.

  • Discuss Mindfulness
  • Ask "How does that make you feel?"

Future Plans:

I am still exploring the Paralives modding tools but future updates may include:

– Custom career outfits
– More mental health-related thought cards
– Custom Interactions/actions
– Additional mental health-related careers
– More goals
– Career-specific wants

Compatibility:

This mod should be compatible with most other mods unless they use the exact same GUID which is highly unlikely.

Disclaimer:

I do not know how this update will affect existing save games.

Mods can and will break your games, so always keep a backup save before installing or updating mods. I tested this update by loading into an existing game I was playing and did not notice any issues, but results may vary.
