Herald’s Start Positions – The Changeling in Cathay
Herald’s Start Positions – The Changeling in Cathay is a lua script start position mod which moves the Changeling from Stirland in the Empire to Nongchang Basin in Grand Cathay.
This mod was developed alongside HSP – Gelt in the Empire and HSP – Yuan Bo in Cathay to offer a less chaotic experience while playing a faction in or around the Empire, while making Cathay feel more alive by offering a new starting setting for the Changeling.

The main changes of this mod are the following:
– The Changeling starts the campaign in Nongchang Basin in Grand Cathay, in the vicinity of the settlement of Nongchang. His starting cult is moved to Shiyama’s Rest in the same province, and keeps the same buildings as the original starting cult in Stirland;
– All traces of the Changeling’s presence in Stirland have been removed, he now starts at war with the Jade Custodians;
– The Changeling’s starting army includes four additional units: two units of Forsaken of Tzeentch, and two units of Tzaangors; to help him besiege Nongchang and create a cult in the settlement. Nongchang itself was reduced to a level 1 province capital, to help facilitate an easier starting battle for the Changeling.
I recommend using this mod alongside other Herald’s Start Positions mods, and my other mods, as they are all being developed in conjunction.
I especially recommend this mod alongside Herald’s Start Positions – Yuan Bo in Cathay.
Herald’s Start Positions are now also available as a single subscription mod compilation, which will be continually updated with every future HSP mod release and update.

This mod is fully compatible with Mixu’s Unlocker and Immortal Empires Expanded. It was not developed keeping any new faction mods in mind.
Herald’s Start Positions mod series should work with mods like SFO: Grimhammer III, which rebalance different aspects of the game, but generally do not touch the start positions of the factions.

Special thanks go to Acephelos for a part of his script regarding moving the starting cult, and for helping me sort out the starting mission, event feed and fog of war at the start of the Changeling’s campaign.

Porkenstein and I have been developing similar versions of a Changeling start position mod at the same time, but decided to publish them seperately to retain creative freedom. In that sense, I will be free to change this mod in correlation to my other start position mods or future changes to the campaign map by Creative Assembly.
