Description:

Herald’s Start Positions – Yuan Bo in Cathay is a lua script start position mod which completely moves Yuan Bo from Lustria to Cathay in Immortal Empires and IE Expanded, for both the AI and the player. It also includes some database changes needed to move the landmarks required for Yuan Bo’s victory conditions to Cathay, and other minor refinements.

Here are the main changes of this mod:

Yuan Bo starts the campaign controlling only Shang-Wu in the Celestial Riverlands in Cathay, both as the player and the AI;
– the Floating Pyramid in Lustria starts off as a settlement owned by the Blue Vipers, while the Isle of the Crimson Skull is now an abandoned ruin;
– to enhance Yuan Bo’s behaviour in Cathay, he starts at war with both Jiangshi Rebels and the Burning Wind Nomads while controlled by the AI; otherwise only with the Jiangshi Rebels. He is no longer at war with the Blue Vipers in Lustria;
– the sale of Shang-Wu dilemma script has been disabled;
– the settlements required for Yuan Bo’s faction-specific victory conditions have been moved out of Lustria to Cathay: the long victory conditions now require him to build Astromantic Relays in Wei-Jin, Shang-Yang, the Temple of Elemental Winds and Li Temple, instead of their Lustrian counterparts;
– the locations of Lizardmen incursions tied to the construction of Astromantic Relays have been moved to the corresponding areas in Cathay;
– the position of the Stoneshatter Ogres has been slightly adjusted – Zhao Ming and the Temple of Elemental Winds are now inside of their camp’s sphere of influence on turn 1.

Worth mentioning are also the changes in Herald’s UI Mod – Wu Xing Compass, which reworks Wu Xing Compass’ button layout to suit Cathay’s geography better.

HUIM – Wu Xing Compass is a supplementary mod to HSP – Yuan Bo in Cathay, and using these mods together is recommended. The Wu Xing Compass is an independent mod for modularity, which alongside its features, is explained in more detail in its mod description.

I recommend these mods alongside HSP – The Changeling in Cathay and HSP – Gelt in the Empire, to enjoy a cleaner and more immersive experience playing as any Cathayan Legendary Lord in Immortal Empires.

I highly recommend using HSP – Yuan Bo in Cathay with Herald’s Start Positions – Alberic in Bretonnia for a Markus Wulfhart campaign. These mods make Lustria feel more unexplored and mysterious, as it used to be in Warhammer II.

These mods are fully compatible with Mixu’s Unlocker and Immortal Empires Expanded. They were not developed keeping any new faction mods in mind.

Herald’s Start Positions mod series should work with mods like SFO: Grimhammer III, which rebalance different aspects of the game, but generally do not touch the start positions of the factions.

I also recommend using these mods alongside other Herald’s Start Positions mods, and my mods in general, as they are all being developed in conjunction.

Herald’s Start Positions are now also available as a single subscription mod compilation, which will be continually updated with every future HSP mod release and update.

Special thanks go to Caesar and Porkenstein, the developers of the predecessors of this mod: To The West! and AI Yuan Bo in Cathay respectively. Some parts of Caesar’s mod I’ve adopted and edited in my mod, more precisely the landmark and lizardmen incursion moves, which I’ve focused completely on Cathay.

Other credits go to Porkenstein and Swissbob for the script framework which I’m using across my start position lua script mods, and to Acephelos for helping me out with disabling vanilla scripts in this mod, as well as in HSP – Gelt in the Empire.
