Another Day in the Corps
Workshop ID: 3382585781
A bunch of US Marines find themselves encircled, outnumber and outgunned. Fed up with sub hunting? Try tank hunting with AH-1 attack helicopters! Bored by long-range air combats? Try real dogfights with the AV-8A Harrier: no radar, only guns and Fox-2 missiles! Tired of firing dozens of Harpoons at hapless Soviet ships? Try WW2 style low-level bombing runs through a hail of fire with those AV-8A and good old Mk-83! Try this special Sea Power scenario in which you don’t control any ships! And be ready for some non-stop action! It’s just another day in the Corps!
Norway, April 28, 1982.
Taking advantage of the fact that the Royal Navy was busy in the South Atlantic, reconquering some far away islands, the Soviets organized a surprise invasion of Norway. Their mechanized forces landed north of Kirkenes and are moving to encircle and capture the city. But NATO reinforcements are on their way.
You are the Commander of a US Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) and you are part of those reinforcements. Your landing operation near Kirkenes went off without a hitch. You’ve set up a Forward Operating Base on a civilian airfield dubbed ‘Cactus Air Base’ (from the famous Henderson Field of WW2 fame). A company of Marines from 4th Marines Amphibious Brigade was airlifted and a platoon of M-60 tanks landed, while Harriers and Sea Cobras were transferred to the airfield.
Then suddenly all hell broke loose. In a matter of minutes amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa and her escort were engaged by multiple coordinated Soviet air, surface and submarine strikes. Now, USS Tarawa is resting on the sea floor together with half a dozen US and Norwegian destroyers and frigates.
You are now facing a full Soviet Tank battalion heading toward your positions, while a Soviet surface action group, escorting landing ships, is racing to bring more red reinforcements. Last but not least several flights of Soviet bombers have been spotted, ready to obliterate the airfield.
Delay the Soviet forces and cause them enough losses so that we regain the initiative. Hold Cactus Air Base until relieved.
Friendly Forces:
A Small USMC Air Station with:
- 12 x AV-8A Harrier
- 12 x AH-1T Sea Cobra
- 4 x CH-46 (unfortunately pretty useless until the devs implement infantry units and tactical airlifting)
- A battery of MIM-23 Hawk medium-range surface-to-air missile (3 launchers + Fire Control and Search Radars)
- A single Vulcan SPAAG
- 4 x M-60 main battle tanks
This scenario was a lot of fun to test, I hope you’ll have as much fun playing it 🙂
This scenario was designed before version 0.6+ of the game, which introduces Flight Deck Timing. Therefore in order you stand a chance against the Soviets you need to set the game in ARCADE MODE (which disables aircraft prep time). To do so, go to the Options Menu, then to Flight Deck Timing, then choose Arcade.
Casual Mode should offer a good challenge to experienced players.
You’re welcome to try with the Realistic Mode, but don’t complain if you get squashed 😉
This scenario requires the Small USMC Air Station MOD available here:

You’ll have to subscribe to this Mod first in order the scenario works properly.
