Description:
Make Tainted Eden Fun, Not Frustrating

The biggest issue with Tainted Eden isn’t the chaotic item rerolls; it’s the unfair health loss.
Bad rerolls can instantly delete multiple heart containers, putting your entire run at risk through no fault of your own

This mod overhauls Tainted Eden’s rerolls, health, and core systems, turning uncontrolled chaos into something consistently fair.
All features are configurable!

Reactive Rolls

Rerolls now give immediate, usable value

Most rerolled items are now active, as if you just picked them up (Enabled by Default)

  • Resources earned naturally are never affected
  • Item-generated resources are temporary
  • Problematic items are addressed

You can disable it or enable the Piñata config, which allows most floor drops through while still blocking hearts and trinkets to prevent infinite healing and clutter. Problematic items are still addressed regardless!

Quality Keeper

No more lowroll punishment

Rerolls match the original item quality (Enabled by Default)

You can disable it or tie it to Birthright through the config, reworking Birthright into the Quality Keeper itself and removing its native no-reroll effect

Two Ways to Play

Pick your preferred style

Purist (Default)
  • Vanilla-friendly. For players who just want the original character fixed
  • Standard health behavior
  • Rerolls never delete containers

Soul Infusion

Adaptive gameplay with a dynamic health system

  • Capacity-Based Health:
Health is limited to a configurable Red Heart cap (default: 3). Excess HP converts into Soul Hearts. Set to 0 for a fully soul-based character
  • Glitched Armor:
Red health acts as armor, absorbing damage first. Only Soul Heart damage affects deal chance
  • Health Reserve (IOU System):
If rerolls remove Red containers, missing Red health is stored and restored when containers return
  • Heart Sorting:
Hearts are automatically ordered (Soul → Black → Bone) for predictable damage behavior (also active in Purist with Red Armor)
  • Dynamic Devil and Angel Deals:
Deal chance now reflects how you take damage
    • Red health protects deal chance
    • Soul Heart damage can reduce it
    • Having no Red Containers treats you as a Soul-based character

Note: Losing all Red Containers through devil deals does not grant this protection

Gameplay Settings

Configure how chaos behaves

  • Reactive Rolls (enabled by default):
Most rerolled items activate their effect as if picked up normally
  • Quality Keeper (enabled by default):
Item quality is preserved through rerolls
  • Static Base Stats (disabled by default):
    Base stats no longer reroll

You can also enable Initial Stat Roll, which randomizes your stats at the start of the run, after that they remain fixed for the rest of the run

  • Adaptive Immunity (disabled by default):
Grants 2 seconds of invincibility after rerolls, giving you time to react to your new build
  • Glitchless Armor (disabled by default):
Red health damage doesn’t trigger rerolls while armor is active

Run Protection and Ban Workbench

Full control over your item pool

Full Pool Control
Banned items cannot appear, be rerolled into, or start a run with

Native Bans (configurable):
TMTRAINER, Shard of Glass, Missing No., Starter Deck, Little Baggy

Custom Ban Workbench:
Ban any item by ID, including modded ones!

The Philosophy

Tainted Eden is meant to be about adapting to chaos
In the vanilla game, that chaos often feels unfair or straight up punishing instead of interesting or fun.
The mod removes that unfairness while staying true to the character’s core identity
