Burd’s Survival Journals (B41/42)
Record your survival skills in personal journals and learn from the fallen. Find worn journals in bookcases and desks, loot bloody journals from zombie corpses, risk cursed journals for powerful rewards, or unwrap seasonal Yuletide gifts packed with supplies.
Your knowledge doesn’t have to die with you. Pass your journals to new characters, trade them with friends, or discover what survivors left behind before they turned.

Journals – Player: Enable/disable, XP recovery modes, baseline restrictions, pen/eraser requirements, learning times, capacity limits
Journals – Loot: Spawn chances, XP ranges, trait/recipe/forget chances, limited-claim dissolution

Nearly everything is adjustable. Run it hardcore with strict limits, or generous with plentiful rare drops. Your server, your rules.
Q: Does this work in the latest multiplayer build?
A: Yes. Full server-authoritative multiplayer support with claim tracking, sharing permissions, and admin tools.
Working Builds Checklist:
✅ B41 – SP/MP – Full working. Recently released, may not be as stable as B42 branches.
✅ B42 SP/MP (Up to 42.14) – Fully working
✅ B42.15+ SP/MP – Fully working
Q: Will this break my existing save?
A: No. Safe to add to current saves. "Only Record Earned Progress" takes effect on your next character respawn if you already have an established run. Removing the mod during save could destroy active player or loot journals.
Q: Can I exploit this with profession skill farming?
A: Not easily. Baseline restriction (enabled by default) prevents recording starting profession XP. You’d have to earn it the hard way first.
Q: What traits can bloody/cursed/Yuletide journals have?
A: Positive traits like Keen Hearing, Cat’s Eyes, Organized, Brave, Fast Learner, and more. Negative traits are disabled by default but configurable. Cursed/Yuletide have higher drop chances for traits and forget slots.
Q: Is this compatible with other mods?
A: Generally yes. Works with most skill/trait mods that use standard B41/B42 registration. Compatibility toggles included for major trait mods. Safe function capture prevents crashes from conflicting mods.
Q: How do cursed journals work?
A: 0.08% zombie drop chance to replace a normal bloody journal spawn. Opening one applies a curse (10 possible effects), then transforms into a premium reward journal with 2-5 skills at 75-300 XP each. Can disguise as bloody journals if sandbox setting enabled – no warning prompt, immediate curse.
Q: When do Yuletide journals spawn?
A: During December by default, but configurable for in-game December, real-world December, or always-on. Replace worn (default 8%) and bloody (default 4%) spawns when active.
Q: Can I use player journals as a memory system for my whole server?
A: Yes. Record skills/traits/recipes, drop the journal in a shared base, let others claim. Per-character tracking means everyone gets their own copy of the progress.
