Ghost Recon
MARCH 4, 2012
Greetings, Commander! We’ve just received orders from Washington, courtesy of the President himself–and oddly enough, it doesn’t seem to be the standard pirate-hunting operations that we’ve been dispatched to the Indian Ocean for as part of Task Force 151.
Recently-uncovered intel from an Interpol operation in Ukraine suggests that a high-value individual, believed to be linked to the MRSU rebellion in Russia back in the 90s, is currently operating within Somalia as a smuggler of weapons and supplies for local pirates and one of the insurgent groups in the ongoing civil war. Not only do we now have an opportunity to disrupt a significant source of material for those preying upon merchant shipping along the Somalian coast, but the intel that such a person could provide as to the whereabouts of the remaining remnants of the MRSU movement would be invaluable to the world at large.
A squad of the 5th Special Forces Group currently aboard the USS Iwo Jima has therefore been tasked with locating and capturing (if possible) this HVT. Heavy resistance is expected, and we have been authorised to utilise the full air wing of the Iwo Jima to provide close air support if necessary. If needs be, a pair of Strike Eagles can also be dispatched from our air base in Djibouti, but they will take some time to arrive.
Of course, our main mission of ensuring the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea remains safe and free for international shipping is still present–be prepared to act in coordination with our fellow counterparts to tackle any threats to civilian vessels across the region!
