Break Big Rocks

Break massive rocks, gather valuable resources, and experience a deeper and more immersive mining system in Project Zomboid.
Giant Rock Crusher turns heavy tools into true mining equipment, introducing a balanced survival-focused mining loop built around endurance, skill progression, and vanilla-friendly crafting.
Mine smarter, manage your endurance, and build a sustainable resource chain with Break Big Rocks.
- Reworked mining progression that reduces RNG dependency while preserving survival balance.
- Dynamic mining time based on your equipped tool and Strength level.
- Mining now consumes physical endurance through the vanilla metabolism system.
- Tool durability loss when mining heavy rocks.
- Strength, Maintenance, and Masonry XP awarded for mining actions.
- Custom sounds for a better mining experience.
- Expanded mining loot table with rare, sandbox-configurable resources.
- New and expanded Sandbox options to fine-tune mining balance and rarity.
- Added a complete vanilla-friendly crafting loop for mining tools.
- Pickaxes can now be assembled using existing vanilla parts (Pickaxe Head + Handle).
- Pickaxe heads can be forged through Primitive Forge systems.
- No new items, models, or animations added — fully compatible with vanilla gameplay.
- No books required: progression is driven by skills, materials, and effort.
- Carving tools (Stone Chisel, Metalworking Chisel, Stone Drill) can be used for limited mining.
- Carving tools require a hammer or striking tool to function.
- Limited mining allows extraction of small stone materials only.
- Large boulders cannot be fully destroyed without proper heavy tools.
- This provides an early-game fallback when heavy mining tools are unavailable.
- Right-click any large rock and choose "Extract Rocks".
- Requires a compatible tool setup (see below).
- Mining takes time and consumes endurance based on tool type.
- Stones and materials drop directly onto the ground.
- Larger rocks take longer to break but may yield better resources.
- Mining rewards preparation, skills, and long-term progression.
- Sledgehammer (all variants)
- Pickaxe / Forged Pickaxe
- Stone Maul / Block Maul
- Long Stone Mace
- Carving tools + hammer (limited mining only)
- Rocks drop Stone (Base.Stone2) based on size and Sandbox settings.
- Low-probability rare drops (all sandbox configurable):
- Flint
- Iron Ore
- Large Stone
- Iron Bloom
- Aluminum Fragments
- Copper Ore
- Flat Stone
- Stone Blocks
- Steel-related fragments
- Rare materials are intentionally uncommon to preserve long-term balance.
- Higher Strength reduces mining time.
- Improvised or carving tools consume significantly more endurance.
- Tools degrade based on mining intensity.
Fully customizable under:
New Game → Sandbox → Break Big Rocks
- Stone Min / Max
- Individual rare drop chances
- Limited mining behavior tuning
- Overall mining balance for SP or MP servers
- Fully compatible with Build 42.
- Works on any map.
- Does NOT replace vanilla rocks or construction systems.
- Multiplayer-safe and server-authoritative.
- Lightweight and designed for long-term survival playthroughs.
