Ever found it weird how enacting State Atheism is the only way of "making" atheists ?
Well, this mod fixes this, by making wealthy and literate Pops slowly secularize and become atheists over time.
The enactment of State Atheism as the only way for Pops to become atheists is not representative of the early development of atheism in the West after the Enlightenment, which has, as sociological research shows, been a product of both increasing literacy, but above all wealth, in industrialized societies.
The result is that the world will go from zero atheist Pops to a small, but gradually increasing share of the population being atheists, which may reach a few percents (5%-10%) by 1900, depending on your success at industrializing and liberalizing.
Pop secularization speed depends mostly on Standard of Living, increased by literacy.
Peasants, Aristocrats and Slaves secularize at 25% speed, to represent Pops that are old-fashioned, that benefit from religious institutions as a means of power or that are deeply alienated.
Academics secularize at 200% speed, to represent the higher share of unbelievers in the scientific community and an increased commitment to naturalism.
Clergymen do not secularize at all, as atheist Clergymen shouldn’t be a thing.
