Ever had the echo sounder read 5 metres to the bottom while you’re looking at open water with nothing below you? Then you dive a little deeper – and the sea floor materialises out of nowhere. Immersion breaking and sometimes cause issues with collision.
The game only loads sea floor terrain near coastlines. In open ocean it’s switched off to save performance – so the echo sounder is reading from a low-resolution global depth map while the actual collision mesh doesn’t exist yet. When the terrain finally loads, it appears instantly, wherever your submarine happens to be.
What changes
- Sea floor terrain loads whenever the water is shallower than 300 m at the current position – covering the full operating depth of any U-boat type, including emergency dives
- Unloads past 350 m – hysteresis prevents flickering at the threshold
- No effect on the map screen
Safe to enable or disable mid-campaign.
