Description:

Forbidden Lineage enriches Crusader Kings III with dark dynastic intrigue: forced arrangements, hidden bloodlines, disputed lineage, illegitimate offspring, court scandals, blackmail, dangerous secrets, rumor networks, and long-term consequences for rulers who abuse their power.

Leverage offspring born of captivity and forbidden unions as dynastic bargaining chips. Shape hidden bloodlines, bury scandals, silence witnesses, weaponize shame — and now, watch the world begin to respond.

Every secret can one day erupt into a crisis for your house, court, and dynasty.

Current Version: v0.3.0 – AI Integration
  • Added the first playable AI layer for Forbidden Lineage.
  • Added the new Forbidden Lineage: Settings decision.
  • AI behavior can now be changed during an ongoing save.
  • Added three AI behavior modes:
    • Player Only
    • AI Reactions Only
    • Limited AI / Experimental
  • Added notification settings for rumors and AI-related events.
  • Limited AI can now rarely perform selected actions on its own, depending on traits, access, valid targets and cooldowns.
  • Current Limited AI support includes personal actions, forced arrangements, public disgrace and selected lineage cleanup cases.
  • Added atmospheric rumor and court-notice events for AI actions.
  • Added multiple text variants for recurring AI notifications to reduce repetition.
  • Improved the distinction between rumors, public shame and confirmed exposure.
  • Private rumors no longer automatically create hard observer opinion penalties.
  • Public disgrace can still create appropriate observer reactions.
  • Reworked internal perpetrator handling so AI actions now correctly apply opinion penalties and grudges toward the actual AI actor.
  • Fixed cases where victims could incorrectly treat the player as the perpetrator of AI actions.
  • Added AI-safe handling for forced arrangement consequences, public disgrace reactions and lineage cleanup outcomes.
  • Added hidden developer tools for AI testing while keeping normal player menus clean.
  • Normal players now only see the main Forbidden Lineage: Settings decision.
  • Polished the AI settings menu, debug reports and decision presentation.
  • Improved English and German localization for AI settings, rumors, public disgrace and disappearance notices.
  • Updated translator documentation under docs/translation/.

Core Features
  • Dark dynasty interactions for prisoners, courtiers, guests, and selected targets.
  • Forced Arrangement system with multiple outcome paths.
  • Pregnancy and birth outcomes tied to hidden lineage and disputed parentage.
  • Bloodline-focused risk/reward path through Shape a Bloodline.
  • Bloodline and scandal tier handling for close-family and dynastic pairings.
  • Child origin, truth, value, and risk markers that shape later event text and consequences.
  • Children from bloodline projects can receive special lineage markers for later consequence chains.
  • Child consequence layer with Whispers, Leverage, Mother Pressure, and Exposure phases.
  • Hidden lineage can escalate into suspicion, exposure, house shame, dynasty backlash, and vassal reactions.
  • Public disgrace outcomes can expose secrets, raise dread, damage legitimacy, and create long-term backlash.
  • Emergency interaction Make Them Disappear for failed or dangerous lineage outcomes.
  • Fatal escalation follow-up event: The Last Breath.
  • Selected hard escalation outcomes can rarely result in death.
  • Trait-gated follow-up options for Cannibal, Witch, Sadistic, Deceitful, and Callous rulers.
  • Severe secrets for forbidden postmortem desecration, forbidden rites, cruel examples, fabricated deaths, and cold disappearances.
  • Unhealthy Attachment system with follow-up events and escalating consequences.
  • Secrets and exposure hooks for abuse of power, scandal, and reputation damage.
  • Trait, nickname, and title progression for rulers who repeatedly abuse their power.
  • English and German localization included.

AI Behavior

Forbidden Lineage now includes an adjustable AI behavior system.

  • Player Only keeps the mod focused on player actions.
  • AI Reactions Only allows the world to respond through consequences, rumors and reactions without letting AI rulers actively initiate the limited dark actions.
  • Limited AI / Experimental allows selected AI rulers to rarely use restricted Forbidden Lineage actions on their own.

Limited AI is intentionally rare and restricted. It checks personality, traits, valid targets, access, cooldowns and situation before acting.

Full Dark AI is not part of v0.3.0.

Rumors, Public Shame & Exposure

AI-related events now better separate what your ruler hears from what your ruler truly knows.

  • Private actions are presented as rumors, whispers or uncertain court reports.
  • Forced arrangements are treated as court suspicion unless truly exposed.
  • Public disgrace is handled more directly because it is seen and remembered.
  • Disappearance-related events are written as vague, cold court rumors rather than certain knowledge.
  • Recurring AI notices now have multiple atmospheric text variants.

Compatibility / Notes
  • A first compatibility audit for Advanced Torture found no known hard conflict.
  • Both mods should generally be able to run side by side, though there may still be balance overlap around prisoner gameplay, secrets, and cooldowns.
  • Total conversions such as AGOT are not fully tested yet. However, in a short basic test, the Forbidden Lineage interactions appeared normally and worked.
  • Regular CK3 mods should usually work unless they overwrite the same systems.

This is still an early release version

The core gameplay loop is playable: interactions, forced arrangements, pregnancy outcomes, birth events, secrets, exposure hooks, modifiers, trait progression, bloodline projects, fatal consequence events, AI reactions, rumor notifications and Limited AI are already active.

Some deeper systems are still being expanded, especially broader rumor networks, blackmail, court scandal reactions, compatibility patches, and long-term character-specific consequence chains.

Planned Future Expansion
  • Narrative and flavor expansion pass for existing events and localization.
  • More atmospheric event text and additional recurring message variants.
  • Deeper hidden-lineage consequence chains.
  • Expanded rumor and exposure events.
  • More blackmail, hook, and court-scandal outcomes.
  • House and family reaction events.
  • Faith, piety, and reputation consequences.
  • Further balancing based on player feedback.
  • Optional compatibility passes for selected prisoner- or secret-focused mods.

Save Game Compatibility

This mod can generally be added to an existing save, but starting a new game is recommended for the cleanest experience.

Limited AI will not automatically activate in old saves unless selected by the player through the in-game settings.

Removing the mod from a save after its events, traits, secrets, modifiers, child markers, or AI-related systems have appeared is not recommended.
