61 Nation and Culture-Specific Rights

Unique rights available only to specific nations or culture groups, reflecting the actual practices that defined urban life in each civilization:

  • Ottoman Empire — Iskele port charters, Vakıf endowments, Janissary garrison rights
  • Eastern Slavic / Russia — Pomor fishing settlements, Sloboda free quarters, Posad merchant districts, Oprichnina district
  • Kyiv / Ruthenia — Magdeburg law charters, Cossack suburbs, Chernozem cultivation rights
  • Poland-Lithuania — Folwark demesne rights, Magnate dominion charters, Ruthenian Orthodox tolerance rights
  • Teutonic Order — Komturei commanderies, Hanseatic trading privileges
  • Italy — Civic Parish Charter, Arsenal shipbuilding quarters, Merchant Exchange
  • Ming China — Lijia administration, Imperial examination schools, Silk guild charters
  • Korea — Celadon kiln charters, Royal armory rights
  • Dai Viet — Làng Bàng market rights, Wet rice cultivation

71 Unique Per-City Rights

The most important and historically distinctive cities of the era receive their own one-of-a-kind rights.
These can only be granted to the specifc city and none other and they are kept after they were conquered.
They always provide a country bonus as well, so now there is an incentive to conquer historically important cities.
These include:

Europe — Constantinople, Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan, Genoa, Bologna, Naples, Palermo, Dubrovnik, Bruges, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Gdańsk, Seville, Lisbon, Paris, London, Nuremberg, Prague, Belgrade, Tarnovo, Novo Brdo, Kutná Hora, Falun, Smolensk, Novgorod, Moscow, Kyiv, Thessaloniki, Trebizond, Edirne, Kaffa

North Africa — Aleppo, Damascus, Jerusalem, Mecca, Alexandria, Cairo, Aden, Al-Mukha, Tunis, Fez, Marrakesh

Middle East — Bursa, Samarkand, Bukhara, Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, Hormuz

Sub-Saharan Africa — Timbuktu, Harar, Mogadishu, Kilwa, Gondar

South & Southeast Asia — Delhi, Goa, Kollam, Vijayanagara, Malacca, Angkor

East Asia — Beijing, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Wuxian, Jingdezhen, Kyoto

  • Maybe something for the French (as of game version 1.3 they only have 1 urban right)

  • Timurid and Mongolian rights
  • More unique cities

Design Philosophy
  • Historical accuracy — At least somewhat. I tried to diversify otherwise every city would be a trade center.
  • Mechanical distinctiveness — No two rights do the same thing. Although a lot of them are similar in nature.
  • Balance — Nation/Culture specific rights almost always come with some downsides. The buff modifier values should copy vanilla value ranges. Urban rights unique to only one city are always only positive and all of them have a distinct country bonus.

Compatibility
  • Base game: Vanilla already has some urban rights in the unique city locations at game start. So I decided that the urban rights from this mod will not be granted by default to the listed cities in order to keep maximum compatability with base game when Paradox eventually adds more urban rights.
  • Save game: CAN be add to a save | Should NOT be removed from a save (although the game might recover if it doesnt crash on loading the save)
