TT Armor system
This is a mod that attempts to implement the armor system from War Thunder in Arma 3.
For those who haven’t played War Thunder, here’s a brief explanation:
In War Thunder, every vehicle features a highly detailed armor layout, including internal component models. Each armor plate is configured with thickness values that aim to be as realistic as possible. When different types of shells—such as APFSDS, HEAT, or HE—hit a vehicle, the game engine performs internal simulation calculations. At a given distance, for kinetic rounds, the engine first calculates how much penetration is lost over distance before impact. Then, along the projectile’s path, it evaluates each layer of armor on the target vehicle—determining whether it can be penetrated, how much penetration capability remains after passing through, and whether it can continue penetrating subsequent layers. If critical components are hit—such as the ammunition rack, gun breech, turret drive (elevation/traverse), crew members, engine, transmission, or machine guns—the vehicle will lose the corresponding functionality accordingly.
This is exactly the effect this mod is trying to simulate. I’m aware that the vanilla Arma 3 armor system can model damage to certain components, but it cannot properly represent differences in armor thickness, nor does it provide detailed simulation for kinetic effects such as normalization or ricochet.More importantly, vanilla Arma 3 vehicles are essentially health-based—damage is applied even when a round fails to penetrate the armor, which is not realistic. In this mod, a vehicle will only explode if its ammunition is actually hit. No matter how many times the vehicle is struck, if the predefined ammunition storage is not hit, it will never detonate.
At present, only vehicles with collision models configured to work with this mod can use my armor system. Otherwise, they will fall back to the default Arma 3 damage system. The vehicles I’ve already configured are listed as required dependencies.
At the moment, this mod is set to development mode. This will output a large amount of debug information to both the screen and the RPT file, making it easier for players to identify and report issues.
Actually, the only truly required item on the right side is Blastcore Murr Edition (TT Version). All of the vehicle mods are completely optional. I placed them on the right side simply to show which vehicles I have already finished configuring and made compatible with this system, so people can easily see the current list of supported vehicles.
