A loreful rework for Morgiana, the Fay Enchantress
This mod gives Morgiana le Fay the ability to resurrect dead soldiers with her healing, increases the healing cap for her faction and removes it for her army, adds a unique Lore of Magic for Prophetesses and Damsels (for all of Bretonnia), and more.
Morgiana’s campaign is my favorite by far, but that’s because I love Morgiana as a character and from a story/lore perspective. The campaign itself fails at conveying her fantasy.
You should feel like she’s a beacon of hope for commonfolk and knights in a desperate scenario, bringing them healing and strength as they’re dealing with greenskins and skaven and beastmen attacking from all directions. Her enemies can field all sorts of crazy stuff, while she leads humans with pointy sticks…
And that struggle would be awesome to play, if Morgiana could actually empower and elevate her men to stand against those threats AND keep them alive like she does in lore. But her current gameplay makes the vanilla experience a bit sad.
Morgiana has mastered all 8 lores of magic (which alone is an insane feat) and is a terrific (and terrifying) sorceress, but she has chosen to perfect her command of the Lore of Life to support Bretonnia, to the point of being capable of actual lifegiving miracles. Meanwhile, in-game, she’s literally just a glorified life Damsel: there’s nothing a normal Damsel can’t do that Morgiana can magic-wise, and she doesn’t even get more mount options like Prophetesses! You’re better off leading an army with a Lord + Life Damsel, than with Morgiana as your general. Which is a travesty.
I’ve decided to rework Morgiana’s magic to make her feel like the legendary white sorceress she is, whose spells can defeat death itself (while also adding some of her iconic spells from the lore).
- Morgiana’s Lifeblood: Healing spell that can resurrect dead models in a unit, and restores stamina and morale. Overcasting makes it AoE. This is what IMO delivers the fantasy of playing as Morgiana in battle: her men were just torn apart by some monster? She makes them whole again, and stands with them until they’ve recovered from the shock, and are ready to fight again.
- The Mists of Chàlons: Morgiana conjures the mists of her home to provide a Ward Save bonus to a unit, and conceal it. Overcasting makes it AoE.
- "Grow forth, Ghyran!": I chose this name because in-game Morgiana often says "Grow forth, Ghyran!" while buffing. It is now an offensive buff (melee attack, armor piercing, charge bonus). Overcasting makes it AoE.
- Spiteful Glance: Morgiana’s trademark gaze of death. Direct damage burst in 6 sec, anti-hero, very short range. -90% to enemy healing, armor, spell res, ward save for 6s (Morgiana’s glance doesn’t admit any armor or ward save in the tabletop).
- The Court of the Fay Enchantress: Replaces "Dwellers Below". Same area and damage, but it no longer slows, and instead has no friendly fire, pulls enemies towards the center, and can damage airborne targets. And when Morgiana says "Awaken, my vengeful brothers!" now actual fae spirits of mist will appear rather than filmsy vines. Overcasting increases damage.
- Awakening of the Forest: like Vanilla, but no friendly fire and briefly immobilizes and stops ranged fire.
In addition to "Spiteful Glance" and "The Mists of Chàlons", there are other 2 signature spells from Morgiana’s lore that I have added. "Favour of the Fay" now shares its cooldown with those 2 spells, that cost no wom: "The Doom of Dol" and "The Beguilement of Blondel". The player can choose whether Morgiana focuses on buffing, cursing the enemy’s defenses, or preventing them from fighting.
- The Favour of the Fay: This spell is a huge piece of characterization for Morgiana: she basically gives people on a quest a part of her lifeforce to accompany them and help them succeed. She does that even though she knows that, should the fail or quit, she would lose that part of herself and suffer great injury. Such is her faith and dedication towards making her people the strongest versions of themselves. Sadly, I don’t know how to recreate this trade-off effect in-game. Nevertheless, I made the ability capable of buffing a wider range of units: so it now also increases stats useful to ranged units, as well as to spellcasters.
- The Beguilement of Blondel: Short range charm spell. Disables melee, shooting, and spells for the target. If cast on an ally, makes it invulnerable but unable to do anything bgar moving. Lasts 30 sec.
- The Doom of Dol: A single unit has its armor, resistances, melee defence, and missile block reduced significantly.
Yes, she does that in lore, which is why her Chalice of Potions allows her to cast "Flare of the Heavens", a unique Thunderbolt spell with no friendly fire.
Morgiana’s innate and unique skills have been reworked, and so has the faction effects. Her campaign line skills have been changed to fit her lore. See the gallery for a full picture (heh), but these are the key changes to how she plays.
- Loremaster, Lore of Life: no longer grants wom cost reductions. Now reduces the cooldown of all life spells, including the overcast options. Removes the healing cap for Morgiana and her army.
- "In Her Lady’s Name" (faction effect): Morgiana now grants all Damsels and Prophetesses the attribute Mastery of the Elemental Winds. Morgiana (alongside the Handmaidens of the Lady) is their teacher, after all. Also, large healing cap increase for all armies.
- Mist of the Lady: Now also boosts healing intensity and offers an AoE resurrecting regeneration effect to allies around Morgiana. If Morgiana stays close to her men, they will hold longer and heal more.
Damsels and Prophetesses now have access to an additional magic skill line with this lore, to symbolize them being trained by Morgiana if the player wishes to take any of these spells.
- Resilience of Life (lore passive): 10% ward save army-wide, 15 sec
- Breath of Life: shorter duration Regrowth that resurrects (only 1 target).
- Gift of the Lady: melee attack, accuracy, and reloading buff with armor-shredding imbuement.
- Mists of Chàlons: a weaker version to Morgiana’s OG spell (the mist it summons are part of her very home, makes sense she’s more attuned with it). It offers Physical resistance instead of a Ward Save, but also buffs charge.
- The Doom of Dol: like Morgiana’s, powerful all-around defense shreddign curse. Base version is half duration, upcast for full.
- Prophecy of Deliverance and Prophecy of Exile: Mechanically similar to Morgiana’s Beguilement of Blondel. Former makes an ally invulnerable, but prevents them from engaging in battle. Good to save key units.
Latter is same as above, but on an enemy. Good to disable a big threat. - The Lady’s Scorn: Bombardment + direct damage for single entities.
Expanded Morgiana’s description and many of her flavor texts. Added loading screens. Changed faction name to Court of the Fay Enchantress (Morgiana doesn’t lead Carcassonne).
Compatible with mods that don’t modify Morgiana’s magic line/unique skills, Innate trait, starting spells. Compatible with Lily’s, BRIDF, Blessed, and all reskins.
