Description:
Colonial Governors

Game version: 1.2.* – 1.3.*

Description

Colonial Governors expands the overseas administration side of Europa Universalis V with a small chain of governor buildings for distant ports.

Establish formal authority beyond your home realm, develop stronger overseas institutions, and turn important colonial ports into centers of noble power and royal administration.

This mod is designed to make ruling overseas territories feel more deliberate. Instead of simply owning distant lands, your country can unlock and build Overseas Governor Residences, later upgrading them into Governor Palaces and Viceroyalties as your state develops.

These governors provide local proximity and noble estate power, helping represent the administrative weight needed to govern across the seas.

Features

  • A new advancement path for overseas rule, starting with the ability to govern overseas territories and later unlocking stronger governor buildings.
  • A new overseas governor building chain:
    • Overseas Governor Residence — Age 3
    • Overseas Governor Palace — Age 4
    • Overseas Viceroyalty — Age 5
  • A custom country capacity modifier that limits how many overseas governor seats your country can establish.
  • English localization.
  • For balance reasons, you can currently build only one overseas governor seat.

Design Goal

The goal of this mod is to make overseas administration feel more meaningful without completely removing the difficulty of governing distant territories.

A governor seat should feel like an important colonial institution: powerful, expensive, and politically significant.

Disclaimer

Europa Universalis V is not really designed around directly controlling or ruling overseas lands and colonies in this way. I am aware that this mechanic may be unbalanced or even break parts of the intended gameplay flow.

That said, having the option to build a more direct overseas administration can be fun, so this mod adds that possibility.

I have tried to balance it as much as possible, but feedback is welcome if anything feels too strong, too weak, or behaves strangely.

Feedback

Please feel free to share balance suggestions, bug reports, localization issues, or ideas for future overseas administration mechanics.
