Where Empires Refuse to Die.
Once a quiet republic on the Central Steppe, Burutistan spent decades under the shadow of corruption, foreign influence, and economic decline. After a nationalist military coup in 2014 led by Colonel Bekzat Urazov, the new government moved to reclaim the nation’s vast natural gas wealth from Russian interests. Moscow responded by backing the ultranationalist Black Hundreds, a pro-Russian insurgency seeking to carve out a breakaway state in Burutistan’s north. For years, the outdated Republican Guard held the line against the rebels, but in 2017 the conflict escalated dramatically when Russian VDV airborne forces entered the war. What began as a local insurgency became a brutal conventional conflict fought across forests, deserts, mountains, and Soviet-era cities. Condemned abroad but largely ignored by the world’s media, the Burutistan War became known as the Forgotten Conflict, a struggle for independence on the edge of a dying empire.
Republican Guard
The armed forces of Colonel Urazov’s government, fighting to preserve Burutistan’s independence with aging Soviet-era equipment, determination, and local support.
Black Hundreds
A pro-Russian ultranationalist insurgency backed by Moscow, seeking to establish a breakaway state and restore Russian influence over Burutistan.
VDV
Russia’s elite Airborne Forces, deployed in 2017 with modern weapons, air support, and veteran troops to crush the Republican Guard and secure victory for the Black Hundreds.
