The mantis men are a reminder of how dark Aperture can truly be, they are mutated humans thrown to the depths of Old Aperture in hopes of either rotting away or being hunted down by future test subjects. While their fate is unkown during the events of portal 2, cross-promotion media suggests they are still surviving in Aperture’s mineshafts.
The design of the Mantis Man is loosely based on it’s appearence in Lego Dimensions
