Description:
Wraithguard

The Wraithguard is a scaled-down alternative to the Shieldwraith: a rare psionic soldier class built around the same general battlefield role, but with a slower power curve, fewer extreme options, and less access to the Shieldwraith’s biggest game-changers.

I won’t be adding a non-focus based variant as originally planned, if you want a good melee primary + shield class for LWOTC I’d strongly recommend CaptainPetRock’s Knight class.

The Wraithguard is intended to sit closer to rare soldier classes like the Stormrider or Warden. It is still powerful, durable, and tactically flexible, but it does not escalate as quickly or as wildly as the Shieldwraith.

Class Breakdown

Like the shieldwraith, the wraithguard can be specialized into a pure aggression role, a semi-tank, or a stealth support build, and mix/match approach is obviously encouraged and supported by the xcom row.

Brutality Tree

Battering Ram – Mobility Positive dashing shield attack.
Greater Bash – Shield Attacks inflict a 1ap Stun
Shieldmaster – +1 Damage and +10 aim on shield attacks
Cleave – AoE Melee Attack
Final Mercy – Further improves attacks against stunned and disoriented enemies
Heavy Swing – Improves melee attacks based on current focus level
Coffin Nail – Primary weapon attacks ignore armor and ablative

Endurance Tree

Chain Slam – Follow up Primary attacks with offhand shield attack
Indomitable – Once per turn gain focus when targeted
Galvanized Armor – +1 armor that cannot be shredded
Bladestorm – Just normal bladestorm
Rout – Mass intercept
Wraithguard – Gain Ablative equal to max focus, restore 1 ablative each turn
Spitepulse – AoE once per turn reaction attack

Cunning Tree

Return To Shadow – Spend 2 focus, enter concealment
Solace – Remove negative mental status from allies
Wraithform – Wall phasing + immunity to fire, acid, poison, explosive
Shadowtap – Passive, gain 1 focus each turn
Revenant – Immunity to mental status effects + sustain ability
Shadowform – Shadowstep + passive deflection chance
ShadowWeave – Aoe harm enemies and heal allies

Design Intent

The Shieldwraith can become extremely strong very quickly, especially once its origin perks, free tools, and high-impact debuff options start stacking together.

The Wraithguard keeps the broad idea of a psionic spectral guard, but trims back the free power and delays the major spikes. The result is a class that should feel familiar to Shieldwraith players, without the full power fantasy.

Notable Differences from Shieldwraith

* No free Indomitable.
* Ramming Speed (Shield Fleche) moved to Xcom Row.
* No origin perks.
* No free Wraithstealth.
* Slightly lower stat growth.
* Remapped skill tree to delay power spikes.
* Fewer major “gamechanger” abilities.
* High-value Shieldwraith perks now compete for limited XCOM deck slots.
* No wild debuff stacking from Gigul / Mark of Amplification.

Shieldwraith Recruitment Changes

By default, enabling this mod disables the Shieldwraith recruitment covert op.

This is intentional. The Wraithguard is meant to function as the more campaign-friendly version of the class, while the Shieldwraith remains the stronger and stranger option.

Config Options

You can adjust the config if you want the Shieldwraith to remain available.

Config options allow you to:

* Re-enable the Shieldwraith recruitment covert op.
* Require a Master Sergeant Wraithguard before Shieldwraith recruitment becomes available, to allow the shieldwraith to participate in end-game.

So by default, the Wraithguard replaces normal Shieldwraith recruitment. With config changes, it can instead become a stepping stone toward unlocking the full Shieldwraith later in the campaign.
