Riga’s ‘French Project’ towers
This mod presents a famous landmark of the city of Riga, capital of the Latvian SSR at the time. Colloquially also known as ‘corncobs’, these 2 residential highrises were the result of a special collaboration between Soviet and French architects (hence their name), utilizing the method of locally poured concrete, instead of assembling precast panels. They were finished in the mid 1980s and were considered of high standing.
In the game they host 144 and 126 adults respectively, at 90pc quality. They are relatively expensive to build. The main material is concrete, but the balconies were assumed (by me) to be prefabs, for diversity and whatnot. Some mechanical components are needed for the elevators.
I’m afraid I didn’t quite nail the proportions and shapes of this building, that are less ‘blocky’ than usual, everything was done by eye. I hope it is forgivable. A little simplification was introduced as well to reduce clutter, as well as some ‘tricks’ to make the texturing of some areas easier.
Special thanks to the comrade urbanist who manages https://www.instagram.com/micromacrorayon/ for fruitful discussions and information on the matter of this project.
