Description:
Ready to play RimtoChess?

RimtoChess is an auto-battler minigame mod you play inside RimWorld.
Buy units, combine them, match synergies, and craft equipment to challenge the round 30 final boss.
At a small chess table in the corner of your colony, another war begins.

Key Features
  • A RimWorld-style auto-battler minigame
  • Recruit 1–5 cost units from the shop
  • Combine three identical units to upgrade their star rank
  • Origin / class / trait synergies
  • Special rounds such as the Select Room, Challenge Room, and Reward Room
  • Permanent buffs and an equipment-part crafting system
  • Auto-imports units from HAR race / xenotype mods
  • Automatic Combat Extended compatibility

How It Plays

Rather than fighting on your colony map, both teams battle automatically on a dedicated arena map.
Your colonists, faction relations, and colony resources take no direct damage.
RimtoChess is split into Free Match and Ranked Match.

  • Free Match: the basic mode, played with a normal wager or as free practice
  • Ranked Match: a competitive mode where you climb tiers and LP

Shop & Coins

Between rounds, the shop opens.
Buy and sell units with coins, deciding whether to save for interest or reroll right away to strengthen your lineup.

  • Base coins at the end of each round
  • Interest based on saved coins
  • Win-streak bonus
  • Leveling up raises the chance of higher-tier units appearing

Roster & Star Combining

RimtoChess builds a fresh unit pool every game.
Putting every installed unit into the shop would make it hard to collect duplicates, so at the start of each game only some synergies and units are chosen to form the active roster.

Units are split into 1–5 cost.
Collect three identical units to auto-form a 2-star, and three 2-stars to form a 3-star.
Higher star ranks greatly boost health, damage, accuracy, and armor.
Every unit is spawned as a brand-new, arena-only instance and leaves no side effects on your colony.

Synergy System

Units carry several tags.
Placing enough units that share a tag triggers a synergy effect.
Synergies fall into three axes:

  • Origin synergies: tribal, imperial legion, light/heavy mechanoids, insectoid, wild beasts, pirates, mercenaries, outlanders, the unnatural, and more
  • Class synergies: melee, gunners, archers, snipers, heavy weapons, and more
  • Trait synergies: armored, swift, elite, and more

Some top-tier (tier 5) units have apex synergies that trigger all on their own.
Favorite a synergy and its units get highlighted in the shop.
The synergy guide shows each synergy’s effect and its related unit list.

Equipment

Combine parts won from battles to craft equipment.
A single unit can equip up to three pieces, and two base parts automatically combine into completed equipment.

  • scope
  • ammo belt
  • alloy blade
  • steel plate
  • stimulant
  • ballistic fiber

Completed equipment raises base stats such as damage, armor, attack speed, health, and dodge, or grants special effects like Lifesteal, Thorns, Regeneration, and Command aura.
The recipe window shows every equipment combination.

Special Rounds

Across the 30 rounds, several special rounds appear in addition to normal battles.

  • Permanent buff room: pick one of three Bronze/Silver/Gold permanent buffs on rounds 1, 11, and 21
  • Select Room: choose one of coins, a free unit, or an item
  • Challenge Room: face tougher enemies for greater rewards
  • Reward Room: defeat weak enemies and collect loot
  • Boss fights: powerful battles on rounds 10, 20, and 30

Defeat the round 30 boss and survive to clear the game. If you lose or get wiped out, your buy-in is not returned.

Automatic Battle

When battle begins, the units you placed spawn into a dedicated arena — randomly generated each game — and fight automatically.
During battle, each of your units’ accumulated damage is shown, so you can see which units carried the fight.
You can freely pause and change game speed.

RimtoChess Standing Shop

The standing shop is a real-reward shop you can open from the RimtoChess table.
RimtoChess Chips, the shop’s dedicated currency, are earned by playing Free and Ranked matches, and purchased goods are delivered to your colony by transport pod.

Challenge Mode

Challenge mode is a high-difficulty variant you can turn on in a wagered run.
At the start of the run, spin the roulette twice to lock in two effects that last the whole game.
In Ranked, challenge mode is always on.

  • A roulette mixing buffs and debuffs
  • Buff/debuff draw rules change with difficulty

Ranked Match

Ranked is a competitive mode that runs separately from Free Match.
When a run ends, LP is settled based on the round you reached and your clear status.

Ranked progress is saved to a global file, separate from your normal game save, so your rank progress stays the same even if you load a different save.
Mod races are excluded by default, but you can change this in the mod settings.
Start from Iron and climb all the way to Challenger!

Rank Upgrade Nodes

Ranked gets harder the more you play.
Unlock upgrade nodes to play to your advantage and grow even stronger.

Rank upgrade node effects apply only in Ranked, not in Free Match.

Achievements

An achievement system has been added.
Achievements are saved as a global record, independent of your game save.

Q1. CE?

Yes, it’s compatible. The arena also becomes larger than the base, and some features adjust to the CE system.
Note: for balance reasons, mechanoids are forcibly excluded from the roster.
This can be changed in the mod settings.

Q2. Are race mods compatible?

Yes. RimtoChess can automatically scan units from installed race/xenotype mods and add them to the arena roster.
It picks combat-capable PawnKinds and auto-assigns their tier and synergies.
You can also use the blacklist feature to exclude specific rosters.

Q3. Can I add this mod and load an existing save?

Yes. However, removing the mod mid-game is not recommended.
