Description:

IMPORTANT

This mod is entirely based on the outstanding Agony Overhaul created by Ganossa.

All credit for the original overhaul belongs exclusively to Ganossa.

This is not intended to replace Agony, but rather to share my own personal gameplay variant with a handful of carefully selected changes.

Features
Tactical Morale Overhaul

Morale has been rebalanced to make battlefield positioning significantly more important.

Flanking and rear attacks now have a decisive impact on unit cohesion, allowing well-executed maneuvers to trigger authentic military collapses when enemy formations are properly outflanked.

At the same time, epic and legendary units retain their exceptional discipline through higher resistance—or even complete immunity—to flanking effects where appropriate, preserving the historical distinction between inexperienced troops and highly trained professional soldiers.

The objective is not simply to make morale harsher, but to make tactical positioning one of the most decisive factors on the battlefield.

Improved Siege Warfare

Cities under siege will now gradually suffer casualties from starvation.

In addition, settlements may surrender after prolonged sieges instead of resisting indefinitely, making long blockades a viable strategic option once again.

This restores an important aspect of siege warfare that was intentionally disabled in the original version of Agony.

Removal of the Automatic Battle End

The automatic battle-ending sequence after victory has been removed.

Players are now free to pursue routing enemies and destroy shattered armies, recreating the historical reality in which the greatest losses were often inflicted during the pursuit rather than during the main engagement itself.

Why isn’t this a submod?

Originally this project was intended to be released as a lightweight submod for Agony.

However, after many hours of testing with RPFM using different packaging methods, it was not possible to create a functional submod using the standard RPFM workflow, as the game continued loading Agony’s original resources whenever both mods were active.

Numerous approaches were tested, including:

Movie packs.
Mod packs.
Database-only overrides.
Script-only overrides.
Complete copies of Agony containing only the modified files.
Different folder structures and loading priorities.

Despite all these attempts, the original Agony resources always took precedence.

For this reason, this project is released as a standalone modified edition of Agony rather than as a conventional submod.

Recommended Companion Mod

For the best overall experience I strongly recommend using:

Diplomacy Revision for Agony by Marceus.

It complements this edition by improving diplomacy while remaining fully consistent with Agony’s gameplay philosophy.
Installation
IMPORTANT

This mod is NOT a submod for Agony Overhaul.

It cannot be used alongside the original version of Agony.

Installation Instructions
Disable Agony Overhaul in the Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties launcher, or temporarily unsubscribe from it on the Steam Workshop.
Enable only Agony: Enhanced Edition.
For the best experience, I strongly recommend using:

Diplomacy Revision for Agony by Marceus.

This mod is fully compatible with Agony: Enhanced Edition and significantly improves the diplomatic AI while remaining faithful to Agony’s overall design philosophy.

Compatibility

Compatible with Diplomacy Revision for Agony by Marceus.
Not compatible with the original Agony Overhaul, as both mods modify the same resources.

Compatibility with other mods depends on whether they modify the same files or gameplay systems.
Troubleshooting

If both Agony Overhaul and Agony: Enhanced Edition are enabled at the same time, the game will continue loading Agony’s original resources, and the changes introduced by this edition will not be applied.

To ensure everything works correctly, make sure that only one version is enabled at a time.

This project would not exist without his incredible work.

All credit for the original overhaul belongs entirely to him.

Personal Note
This is my first mod ever released for the Total War community.

It was never my intention to compete with, disrespect, or take credit for Ganossa’s outstanding work. My only goal was to share a personal gameplay variant with a few changes that I personally enjoy.

If Ganossa ever decides to make these changes himself, provides official support for submods, or simply asks me to remove this edition, I will gladly do so without hesitation.

I have great respect for the work and dedication that went into creating Agony, and I sincerely hope this project is understood as a tribute to one of the best overhauls available for Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties, rather than as an attempt to replace it.

Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you enjoy this small personal variation of an outstanding mod.

Agony is, in my opinion, the finest overhaul currently available for Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties.

This edition does not seek to replace Ganossa’s vision, but simply reflects my own preferred interpretation of a few gameplay mechanics that I personally wished to adjust while preserving the essence of the original overhaul.
