Description:

BA, Core9, Unlock Level 25, Complexity 20

Over-the-top water extraction base. The Titan colony needs its hydrogen!

Works only in Reforged Eden 2. This base uses parts only available in RE2-based scenarios.

This base is a challenge build from season 12 on the Anvil RE2 server and is a collaboration between myself, Ente (workshop), and Kithid (workshop).

The Anvil server sometimes runs a challenge series called the Anvil Military Industrial Complex (AMIC for short). It is an escalating series of week-long harvesting or part production challenges that factions can progress through for rewards. One particular challenge last season was to produce a base that housed a full set of industrial water extractors, along with relatively high storage, production, power, and habitation requirements.

We were bored that week.

The result is a bit of a monstrosity of a zero-fuel water collection base that has plenty of extra capabilities for production. We didn’t build it to be entirely practical. Much of the cost comes from the high part requirements from the challenge spec (fusion reactor, drone bays, medium turrets, full set of turbines, etc). Some parts we just added in because we had CPU to spare and the parts look cool. Regardless, it should function perfectly well as a small faction base and you can swap out any of the deco for more parts as you need.

Placement

The floating effect is accomplished through the use of very long retracted blast doors which anchor deep into the ground and provide the structural integrity for the build. When you spawn the base you will have to lower it into the water before you place it by using the PGDN key. You can also use the Home/End keys to change its distance from you as you are positioning it. You may want to practice this in creative mode first. There is a depth gauge on the front that will tell you when you have lowered the base to the right level: The surface of the water should be at the white line on the orange block. The blast doors have plenty of height to be able to place the base in most water (30m max depth) as long as you lower it to this indicated level. This level also is optimal for the water effects and for the float that will let you access the elevator should you fall overboard.

Once placed you can remove the depth gauge, or even the emergency float if you trust yourself not to fall in. The blast doors do not need to be extended to hold the base up, but if you want to see them you can extend them with the "Structural Support" signal switch on the control panel.

Activating the Water Extractors

To start extracting water, hydrogen, or oxygen, you will need to access the Extractor Control Station on the top level of the habitation section (from the landing pad, take the stairs down to the elevator and stop at the first control room; the Extractor Control station will be on your right). Access the station and the prompts will walk you through initializing and enabling the extractors. The process may change in the future but at the time of this writing it will require placing a standard water extractor in the water below the rig while a survey mission is active. The mission system and extractor control dialogs will guide you through this process.

Performance

The water column uses a lot of particle effects that can affect framerate on some machines. There are two signal switches in the control panel that can toggle the surface water effects and the main water column if you need some frames back.
