Smart Orders
Makes your crew’s automatic work far less wasteful. Instead of trudging back and forth across the ship one item at a time, a crew member tackles the nearest job first and carries as much as they can actually hold in a single trip. Hauling, installing, and repairing all get smarter. It runs completely on its own once installed — there is nothing to click or configure to get the benefit.
Features
- Smarter task order — pending jobs are reordered so a crew member clears the nearest work first instead of zig-zagging between far-apart tasks. Uses real walking distance around walls and obstacles, and still respects the game’s own priorities (owned jobs before merely-allowed ones).
- Multi-item hauling — when hauling, a crew member keeps grabbing more haulable items along the way until genuinely full, then delivers everything in one outing. Drops are laid out neatly in the stockpile, and different items are routed to the right stockpiles in the same trip.
- Batched supply runs — gathers everything an install or repair needs in one run, and sweeps up the materials for other nearby install and repair jobs at the same time. Any leftover carrying space is topped off with nearby haul items.
- Uses your real carrying capacity — accounts for the dolly plus worn bags, pockets, and jumpsuit, respecting each container’s limits. Stackables (floor tiles, conduits, loose parts) pile efficiently, and items that only fit sideways get rotated in rather than left behind.
- Your dolly is safe — the game normally drops your dolly on the floor to make room for an item that will not fit. Smart Orders prevents that during automatic work; the item is simply left behind instead.
- Behaves like vanilla otherwise — everything keys off the game’s own task and inventory tracking, so saving, loading, job completion, and recovery from interruptions all work normally. If anything unexpected comes up, the crew quietly falls back to ordinary one-item-at-a-time behavior.
Configuration (only two options — the batching behaviors are always on by design)
- Enabled — master on/off switch for the whole mod. When off, the game’s default task ordering and single-item trips come back. Default on.
- VerboseLogging — writes extra detail about sorting and batching decisions to the log, for troubleshooting. Default off.
