Description:
Chaos Overwatch — Manual Aim for Overwatch & Return Fire

Tired of watching your soldiers auto-fire and miss during Overwatch and Return Fire or even do friendly fire?
This mod puts you back in control. When an Overwatch or Return Fire shot triggers,
the game pauses and hands the camera to you — aim manually in first-person, then fire when you’re ready.

What It Does
  • Enemy moves into your Overwatch cone → game pauses → first-person free-aim camera opens
  • Enemy fires at you → Return Fire triggers → same manual aiming phase kicks in
  • You aim, you shoot, then the action resumes

Controls During Manual Aim
  • Left Click — fire at your manually aimed target (enemy freezes during the shot)
  • Right Click — auto-fire at the original target (vanilla behavior, enemy keeps moving)
  • ESC — skip the shot entirely
  • Space — toggle enemy movement: pause if moving, resume at max speed if already paused
  • 1 or + — increase enemy movement speed
  • 2 or — decrease enemy movement speed
  • Hold 1 + press + or hold + + press 1
  • Hold 2 + press – or hold – + press 2

The enemy is frozen by default when the aiming phase opens. Speed controls let you scrub their movement to aim at a specific position.
All other keys (weapon switch, ability hotkeys, etc.) are blocked during the aiming phase so nothing fires by accident.

Configuration

Both features can be toggled independently in the mod settings (main menu → Mods → Chaos Overwatch):

  • Manual Overwatch — enable/disable the manual aiming phase for Overwatch shots (default: on)
  • Manual Return Fire — enable/disable the manual aiming phase for Return Fire shots (default: on)
  • Debug Log — verbose logging to the Unity log file for troubleshooting (default: off)

Turn either option off and that attack type falls back to the standard auto-fire behavior.
