Lao People’s Democratic Republic (LPDRK)
Take control over LPDRK, better known just as Laos – one of the few remaining communist countries!
You are landlocked, so your best shot at marine trade is the Mekong river running trough your western border.
LPDRK has a varied geography – the north is mountainous, and full of valleys. The south-western flatlands adjacent to your western border are far better suited for development.
You and your coommunist neighbours are divided by imposing mountain ranges – despite having a very long border with it, there are relatively few eastern block custom houses. Trading with the west is far easier, as the flat, lenghty western border has lots of custom houses to choose from. Will you stick to your eastern allies, or are you going to base your economy on the dollar?
Natural recources of the LPDRK are very hard to get to, covered by vast mountain ranges. There are some veins located on the flatlands, but are you willing to sacrifice your only suitable building land for the industries? Additionaly, you don’t have much oil, as is the case in real life. You do however posses a single, huge bauxite deposit, which may come in handy. (All recources have been distributed in accordance to real geological maps).
The map is PREBUIILT – there is a total of 11 settlements of varying sizes, the biggest of them beiing Vientiane, the Laotian capital city. They are connected by a network of wooden bridges, gravel roads, and tunnels, which should make the difficult terrain easier to traverse. Some of these cities start out with storages of various materials, be it food, gravel, bricks, or even water. There is also some farming infrastructure laying around. On one of the mountaintops, there even sits an abandonned coal mine!
Considering all that, it really shouldn’t be a hard start at all, so I recommend this map even to begginer players.
