Great Power Watch
Why this exists
Victoria 3 is a big world, and most of it happens off screen. Two great powers go to war on the other side of the map, a nation forms, an empire collapses, and unless you’re the one involved, you’d never know. I wanted the feeling of reading the morning paper. Something telling me what just happened out there.
So I built a newsticker for the world.
What it does
Great Power Watch posts toast notifications, the same kind the game already uses, whenever something notable happens anywhere in the world.
- Diplomatic plays and wars between great powers, from the opening move to the peace deal
- Governments falling or changing hands, revolutions, and the odd restoration
- Nations forming (Germany, Italy, Iberia, and more), collapsing, or splitting apart
- Civil wars: the American Civil War, the Taiping Rebellion, the Sepoy Mutiny
- World wonders going up: the Suez Canal, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty
- Great powers rising and falling from the top table
- GDP milestones, literacy, gold rushes, the Scramble for Africa, and a handful of other one-off world events
Notes
- Player-facing only. No AI changes, no balance changes.
- Nothing gets written to your save that isn’t reversible. Add or remove mid-campaign.
- Every toast can be toggled off individually in the message settings, just like vanilla ones.
- English and German are fully localized. Other languages fall back to English.
Compatibility: only adds new triggers, effects, and notifications. Doesn’t touch vanilla files, so it should sit fine next to almost anything. Built for 1.13.x.
