The Brooke-class frigate had a standard displacement of 2,640 tons and a full load displacement of 3,426 tons. The vessel measured 124.35 meters in length, 13.26 meters in beam, and had a draft of 7.2 meters. It was powered by two boilers and one steam turbine, providing 35,000 shaft horsepower for single-shaft propulsion, enabling a maximum speed of 27.2 knots. The crew consisted of 17 officers and 231 enlisted personnel. A total of six ships were built in this class, based on the Garcia-class frigate design, with the primary difference being the replacement of the aft gun with an MK-22 "Tartar" surface-to-air missile launcher, making it the first missile frigate (FFG) of the U.S. Navy. Its armament included a single MK-30 127 mm naval gun, two MK-32 triple 324 mm torpedo launchers, an MK-16 ASROC anti-submarine rocket system, and an MK-22 missile launcher.
