Description:
Identity Fusion

“They say the persona makes the person. If we carve it apart, mix the pieces, and put them into another body… is it still a person?”
Identity Fusion is a persona-engineering mod that treats humanlike pawns as two separate parts: body and persona. Extract persona cores from the living or the dead, project or install them into other colonists, and fuse multiple personas—or even bodies—into something new.
A persona is not a possessing soul. It is the projection of “the life this body might have lived.” The colonist keeps their name and relationships while another persona’s skills, traits, backstories, and compatible appearance are projected over them.

Quick Start
  • 1. Make identity shards at a machining table, then use them to craft an identity hand mirror and equip it in a colonist’s belt slot.
  • 2. Perform persona imaging surgery on a living humanlike, or select a worker and right-click an intact humanlike corpse to obtain a persona core.
  • 3. Use the hand mirror interface to inspect the core and begin projection. Projection consumes one stored identity shard. Ending it restores the colonist’s original persona and equipment.

There are no dedicated buildings or custom research projects. Craft at a machining table, extract living personas through surgery, and handle everything else through the hand mirror and the compact Identity Fusion right-click menu.

Body and Persona
  • Stays with the body: race, sex, age, genes, health, organs and implants, pregnancy, name, relationships, faction, ideology, titles, and physical traits
  • Follows the persona: backstories and work restrictions, skills, XP and passions, mental traits, supported race-specific states, compatible personal appearance, and equipment preset

Projection does not change race or genes. When source and target racial appearances are incompatible, the mod will not force another race’s body or addons onto the host.

Main Features
  • Persona extraction – Non-destructively image a living humanlike, or perform destructive extraction to create a perfectly stable core and a blank body. An intact, sufficiently fresh corpse can also be extracted once.
  • Persona projection – Temporarily apply a core’s abilities and compatible appearance. XP earned during projection is saved to the core, while ending projection restores the host’s original state.
  • Permanent installation – Make a core the body’s new base persona. A blank body accepts it directly; a normal colonist’s previous persona is expelled as a separate core.
  • Persona exchange – Exchange only the base personas of two colonists. Race, genes, health, and personal appearance remain with each body. Subjects may be in bed, downed, or drafted; they do not need to be asleep.
  • Persona absorption – Consume a core to inherit one skill improvement, passion, or mental trait. Repeated absorption builds load and gives diminishing returns.
  • Persona-core fusion – Consume two cores to create a new AB persona. Choose its name and resolve conflicting traits while previewing skills, stability, and lineage.
  • Colonist body fusion – Install a fused persona into the chosen surviving body and turn the donor body into a blank body. With Biotech, genes can also be selected and combined.
  • Synthetic summoning – Use two cores, their combat, research, medical, crafting, or other tags, and a blank body to create a Tactician, Forbidden Surgeon, Artificer, Warlord, Verdant Warden, or Composite Echo core.
  • Ideology integration – With Ideology, persona engineering can be revered, accepted, disapproved, or abhorrent. Permanent installation and persona fusion then produce matching mood effects.

Stability and Risk

The first imaged core has 100% stability, but repeated scans of the same subject fall to 85%, 65%, and lower. Corpse-core stability depends on rot, brain damage, and worker skill. Fusion and summoning may reduce it further.
The first six hours of projection are safe. After that, projection strain accumulates. Low stability and high strain can cause temporary desynchronization or forced ejection. Current risk appears in the inspect panel, and safety recovery ends projection and returns the core if the host dies.
Synthetic summoning has an accident chance based on parent stability, fusion depth, absorption load, and worker skill. The chance is shown before confirmation. Accidents include stability fracture, skill distortion, trait leakage, contamination surge, and identity collapse.

Equipment Presets and Blank Bodies

Each core can remember a weapon and apparel preset, including type, material, quality, style, and color. Presets do not duplicate equipment. During projection, the pawn searches their inventory and colony storage for matching real items, equips what is available, and restores their previous loadout when projection ends.
A blank body is a living body stripped of its personal identity and appearance. It cannot act until a persona is permanently installed. It may also be consumed as a synthetic-summoning catalyst or to reduce a persona’s absorption load by up to 2.

Identity Shards and Skill Assistance

At a machining table, 18 steel and 1 component produce 6 identity shards. An identity hand mirror costs 8 steel, 1 component, and 2 shards. Shards are the main resource for projection and advanced persona operations.
Workers slightly below the recommended skills for an advanced operation can spend extra shards and industrial medicine to compensate. Resources cannot bypass the minimum skill floor, and the exact additional cost is displayed in the menu.

Compatibility

Races and Systems

  • Supports vanilla and HAR humanlike races. Some HAR races that cannot equip the identity hand mirror can use it from their inventory.
  • Dedicated compatibility handling is included for Miho career and skill states and Monolyn faith states.
  • Race-specific needs, hediffs, and abilities without dedicated compatibility support are not copied unconditionally. Operations are blocked when they cannot be handled safely.

Optional Mod Integration

  • RimTalk: Persona data is transferred with persona cores, while the current persona projection and blank-body state are provided to RimTalk’s prompt context.
  • RimPsyche: Psyche data is recorded as part of the persona and transferred along with it.
  • Altered Carbon 2: ReSleeved: Prevents conflicts with neural stacks and synchronizes local stack data after permanent persona changes.

Save Compatibility

  • Adding this mod to an existing save is generally safe, but removing it from a save containing persona cores, blank bodies, or active projections is not recommended.
